But I kept at it, very slowly but eventually my perseverance paid off and I ended up with a rather intimate portrait of a complex man. I just worry some readers won’t have the needed patience.
This book isnt what I thought it was going to be. I really wanted an inside look at Mandela's heart and mind . The book is a random collection of his musinfs in journal and conversations, but so haphazard to me, that I don't feel inspured to read it at all.
Wonderful insight into the mind of a beautiful human being that tapped into every emotion in both the dark and lighter spectrum of humanity and lived to tell about it.
This is a truly important book. Mandela is as one would expect, honest and thoroughly admirable in every way. This is deeply significant recent history and a man with real vision and decency, which lord knows we could use a great deal more of today. The only reason I haven't marked this 5 star is because the writing is not terrific. However, what he has to say, his descriptions and explanations of what he and South Africa went through are so vital and true and nuanced, that this is a must read book.
This book is beautiful. It was the picture that caught my initial attention over all the other books by or about Mandela. The detail of the close-up picture of a smiling Mandela, with a face full of beauty and wisdom is breathtaking. Of course I'm reading it, but it is definitely of table-top quality. And it is a large book, bigger than I thought. The content, his conversations and words of wisdom so inspiring. I'm glad I bought this book. I've actually bought another one as a gift for a friend. She absolutely loves it!

I was the special events coordinator for twelve Earth Day events in the tenth largest city in the country. Each year the planning started the day after the event was over. I would have loved a book such as this to walk me through every step of the way. I especially liked Lynn's description of the types of committee members one needs and might find on a planning committee. In addition, I found that there are volunteers who are working with an event who are there for service or self-service. An event coordinator needs to find the people who are there to serve towards achieving the event's purpose and goals and weed out the ones who are there to serve themselves with a private agenda or feeding an ego. Having done my events on behalf of a city, I was especially impressed that Lynn included how to work with a city and to value the in-kind activities that city staff might provide. Excellent manual for a small or large event!

Gee I've read so many Amish Novels I can't count them all, however, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed in the composition.There were 3 books to this series and usually it can be about the same characters/people only with different plots. I felt this wasdrawn out into 3 books with the same plot which kind of made it boring at times. I've always rated EXCELLENT to ALL the booksi've read but I'm sorry this one didn't quite cut it.
What an exciting Amish novel book! It was hard for me to put it down at bedtime ~ it was a wonderful story of how the Amish folk all work together in their communities and the love that was exemplified for the neighbors and family members is just so neat to read about in these days when one doesn't really get to know their neighbors. I thoroughly enjoy reading these Amish books o my Kindle as many years ago my husband and I often drove thru Pennsylvania Amish country on our way to West Virginia from Boston ~ I can now place the settings of these stories and see the barns, the fields of corn ,and other vegetables and we often stopped and frequented the restaurants and bought gifts in their shops! Wonderful memories and I have read so many books and enjoy the many Amish authors!
Bam! All of a sudden that is the end???? R U kidding me??? Bad enough it was the repetitive, depressing, barn burning, buggy accident-type story line that so many Amish authors cling to- but then just to END it - WOW! Did not expect that - looking for a conclusion. Don't think I'll bother with sequel if that is what she is thinking!! Whew! Disappointed.
This was fantastic until the end! It was left open ended in hopes of you buying the next book in the series, I guess. Why not sell the set together or at least have a good ending.
I truly enjoyed this book. My rating is a 4 because it did drag a few times. With that being said, getting to know the family and friends was a treat. The barn burnings had me hooked to find these people. Ashley surely knows something. As for Matthew....ehhh...he's a player
Great writing. Funny and engaging. An honest picture of Amish life.Very captivating fro the first chapter. I was however disappointed in the ending. I will have to buy the sequel to find out what will happen to the characters.
I like these type of books however I thought this is too much detail into the lives of the Amish rather than the focus on the story. Too much on the history or culture of the Amish instead of the plot of the story.
Very good book, ready to read the next one. Looking forward to reading more about Sarah and see if they find out who is burning the barns.

But it doesn’t stop there. In each chapter, Kehler weaves in spiritual and personal applications that allow us to see God more clearly. This book is a wonderful example of Eph. 3:10 where Paul talks about the “manifold wisdom of God.†The word for “manifold†in the Greek means diverse, intricate, multi-colored, poly-variegated.†We think we understand God and then we learn something new. That’s what Kehler does in this book. You think you understand stars, but she shows you something startling and wonderful. You’re interested in whales, but here you learn something fresh. You don’t like ticks, but did you know….?This is a book anyone who loves nature, but especially for folks who love God but don’t find him in the institutional church. For folks whose spirits soar outside.
This Outside Life is a very interesting and thought provoking book. I am a thoughtful Christian who loves taking walks at the beach or here at home in SC, but I don’t know a lot about biology or nature. Every chapter in this book gives a story about nature as well as Biblical and personal applications related to the chapter’s topic. In one engrossing chapter, Laurie tells about a dive trip in Australia where she got lost because her compass was set for the northern hemisphere. This leads to a comparison with Christians who know where to go for direction (the Bible) but do not. Because I am a singer, the first chapter was one of my favorites. Laurie explains the singing capabilities of a number animals including humpback whales, birds, insects and others. She notes that God gave them the ability to sing because it please and delighted him. Likewise, we should voice our gratitude in word and song. Another chapter talks about the “greed†of chipmunks versus the real greed of many people. I really enjoyed the writing style in this book as well as the comparisons between the natural world and people. I picked up this book (the series actually) to prepare for a job interview as a Java Developer. When I opened the book for the first time, I realized that I had been duped once again by these authors who write 120 page books with large margins in font size 21. There is such little content in this book that (1) you can probably get through it in 1-2 hours if you have any programming experience, and (2) you won't really learn much about any of the topics in enough depth to be useful in practice. Lesson learned: read the sample pages before ordering any book on Amazon.To be fair, paying $3 for the kindle version as a very fast read might be worth it, but don't waste your money on the paperback copy. Honestly, even if it were free, I still wouldn't invest the time to read it. I'm returning these right away.I know this sounds harsh, but that's my opinion. I'm tired of authors putting out poor quality and lazy work on Amazon.
Not just a really thorough guidelines book, it's incredibly easy to read! I've read a number of these books and I nothing short of inspired. I'm really thinking of getting a new computer and reserve it for putting what I'm learning to use.I'm starting to sense a theme here, and I think it's the tremendous consistency of top notch work! Something I'd highly recommend!!!
A great programmer. When you read his books you know the author understands and has a lot of knowledge about programming. This is another fantastic book and resource if you are interested at all in programming. The examples make it easy for the reader to follow along and try step by step on your own. Another amazing resource and instructional book.
For people who have a basic understanding of Java, this book is very helpful in advancing their knowledge. There were well detailed examples for programming applications.
Another easy to understand guide from Nathan Clark. With many examples, the language is easily broken down into the understanding of where he is trying to take you. Which is leaning a few more advanced features on Java. I would recommend.

This is the third book in the step by step Java series that i have studied. This book definitely is not for beginners as advanced features of Java is discussed. I would recommend to start with the other two books first. As all Nathan Clark’s books, this book does not disappoint.
