My father was on the "old" Lexington, before WW2. So, I enjoy anything that is about it. Sadly it was sunk in the war. So, can never see it. Did visit the "new" Lexington in Corpus Christi. Has room for "old' Lady Lex".short but good to see. Does focus on WW2 and my interest is from first arrival in Pacific to record run to Pearl.

This is a very well done series, and this offering is no different. Subject is U.S.S. Lexington CV-2 whose all to brief career in WW II is well covered. There are also pictures, lots of them as well as a short history of the ship. I recommend this series to any navy buffs out there as well as those with an interest in carriers.

GREAT REFERENCE BOOK. SPECTACULAR PICS.

Outstanding coverage of one of our earliest aircraft carriers, the photographs of her under attack and the damage and her subsequent loss are stirring, one cannot Imagine the pain of the men who manned her for almost 20 years watching her destruction. Beautiful shots of her in peacetime, her majestic form cutting through the sea, she was the Queen Of the Flattops.

I am writing a book about "Lady Lex" and bought this book for additional background info. Lots of informative photos and excellent stats. Good book for a researcher to have.

Steve Wiper's long anticipated monograph on USS Lexington (CV-2) is both a valuable and worthwhile addition to any naval aviation collection. It follows the format of his previous releases as a 72 page essay leaning heavily on photographic coverage of the subject. This photography consists of clear, well chosen views of Lexington, many of which will be new to most readers, particularly those involving her action at the Battle of the Coral Sea. The reader is well served, for instance, by photographs--on pages 6 and 10--which compare Lexington`s bow before and after the flight deck (and sponson) modifications which materially aided her flight deck operations. Several overall shots of this great aircraft carrier are also presented which illustrate both the aircraft arrangements and the armament of this vessel. In addition to several shots displayed in color, the text is livened with numerous official drawings and text which depict Lexington's general arrangements and armament modifications, particularly those effected at Pearl Harbor in late March of '42 which have eluded or confused many. The inclusion of photography showing the removal of her 8-inch battery is to be appreciated. The elaboration of all these modifications is a welcome addition to the common record. There are also a number of photographs which clarify the status of the ships' configuration and outfit, as well as her paint scheme, included with appropriate text. Further clarification of her final anti-aircraft outfit is to be applauded as well as a basic recapitulation of the air groups she shipped during her lifetime.Included within the covers of this monograph is a basic description of her career with emphasis on her wartime service including special and deserved highlight of her operations in the South Pacific. Interestingly, herein is found a very egregious error which purports that heavy cruisers Quincy and Vincennes formed part of the escort for transport movements covered by Lexington in early `42. Although found in other sources, this error is difficult to understand given that both of these vessels were in the Atlantic at this time with Quincy off Iceland and not transiting the Panama Canal until June '42 with Wasp, and Vincennes at New York and not moving to the Pacific until mid-March with Hornet. However, these comments are trivial considering that the focus of the monograph rests on Lexington herself. There are additional treats found within the covers of this publication including various choice views of Lexington's island, early wartime views of heavy cruiser Chicago, implied commentary regarding the ability of Lexington to operate under attack (see caption, page 41) as well as extensive photographic coverage of her last action. All in all, Wiper's research and presentation of Lexington's story is thoughtful, well packaged and good value for the money. His results are commendable and his efforts should be encouraged. Warship Pictorial 33, USS Lexington CV-2 is highly recommended both to modelers as well as to amateur historians. Within its covers is found a wealth of photographic detail and an attention to details previously overlooked--for legitimate reasons, to be sure--by other authors. It is a very highly recommended publication.

Gave this as a gift. Recipient reports that he was disappointed that most coverage was on sinking, not early years and development of carrier tactics aboard Lex and Sara.

What I like about Cesar's dog training philosophy is that he stresses that the dog owner must be the leader of the pack. I have trained many dogs, not just for pets, but more intense training for registered therapy dogs. The first thing your dog must learn is YOU lead because if you don't, the dog will lead, and that's when trouble begins. This will help you connect with your dog and make him/her easier to train. It takes time, patience, and knowledge to train a dog well, just like training a child to have manners. When you bring a dog into your home, he/she becomes a family member. Cesar's book is a toolbox of instructions on how to connect and train your family member. The key to having a dog that will bring joy to you, your family, and friends resides with you, and this is what Mr. Millan stresses in this book. You provide the time and patience , and this book will give you the knowledge on how to train your dog and have a deeper connection than you can imagine. My golden retriever is lying quietly by my desk as I write this. For me, there are few things in life sweeter than a well trained friend and canine companion by my side.

This is a very good book to help train people so they can responsibly handle their dog. Cesar Millan's core philosophy is repeated often for the wannabe dog trainer, "exercise, discipline then affection". An excellent resource for the beginning dog owner and a must read for hopeful trainers. (I gave the book four stars only because it is a collage of stories and repeats too often Cesar's life story.)

Millan has a very unique and understandable way of looking at dog training. Many of his ideas work well, however not the easiest to do. Observation of your dog to catch them before they escalate is difficult if you have more than one dog. Overall, very interesting look at dog psychology.

I bought this for my brother and he said there are a lot of helpful advice for dog training. I also see it at home when he enforces what he read on the book with his dog training.

Great help with just a few tips.

Easy to understand and use techniques for training made simple loved it

I've always liked Cesar Millan's TV shows and recently got my first dog, so I was looking for a basic guidebook that could help me out with my new pet and teach me how to teach him some tricks. Although TRAIN DOGS CESAR'S WAY is not a "dog-trick book", I found the basic guidelines I can apply to teach my dog any trick I want to "the pack leader's way" (by the way, my dog didn't know any of the five basic dog tricks included in the book).I truly enjoyed this book and found it very useful. It helped me understand the principles of dog psychology and behavior conditioning, as well as the importance of being a pack leader and, like Cesar always says in his TV shows, of maintaining a "a calm, assertive energy" at all times.I especially liked the body blocking exercise, as well as learning about the importance of understanding our dogs "from a dog's point of view", for most people make a mistake when they treat dogs like humans.I also liked learning how to apply the different training techniques he uses, as seen on TV, about his case histories, and about his life as an immigrant and his early days in the dog training business. I give it five stars.

I just finished reading the New Augmented Edition of "Train Dog's Cesar's Way" and I must say I am impressed. I tried many of the techniques with my dog "Kitty" (I thought it was funny, sorry!) and I was surpised as how well they worked! I am an American living in South Korea teaching English and my dog is a constant source of companionship for me when I am feeling homesick. I really love the little guy. Using the techniques I learned in this book, I was able to teach my dog the basic tricks like shaking hands, but also more fun ones like crawling. I really find that to be hilarious. After watching Cesar Millan on TV, I was always impressed by his abilities, and this book really gives you insight on how to train your dog like Cesar does. It's almost like magic! These techniques REALLY WORK....I know, they worked on MY dog! At over 150 pages, the book really is a steal at $2.99. I could not be happier with this book. Thank you, Al Parr!

Barkskins: A Novel, by Annie Proulx

Amazon.com Review

An Amazon Best Book of June 2016: Annie Proulx’s Barkskins is an epic, multigenerational novel of dynasty building and, ultimately, ecological and cultural destruction. The novel is as masterful as anything she has written. Beginning in the 1600s, the book tracks the lineage of two French immigrants, Charles Duquet and Rene Sel, who arrive in the Canadian region of New France looking for a better life. Sel marries a Mi’kmaq woman and they have children. Duquet founds the beginnings of a vast timber empire. The book follows generations of Sels and Dukes (nee Duquets), eventually concluding in 2013. The vast forests of North America are the key to both families’ futures, and the forest itself becomes a character in the novel, bringing wealth, taking lives, and slowly dwindling. While the book’s length and character count require much from the reader, it remains taut and compelling throughout. This is not a book for the 140 character-based reader. It’s a book lover’s book. --Chris Schluep, The Amazon Book Review

Review

“Annie Proulx’s Barkskins is remarkable not just for its length, but for its scope and ambition. It’s a monumental achievement, one that will perhaps be remembered as her finest work. . . It’s exhilarating to read Proulx, a master storyteller; she is as adept at placing us in the dripping, cold Mi’kma’ki forests as in the stuffy Duke & Sons parlors. Despite the length, nothing seems extraneous, and not once does the reader sense the story slipping from Proulx’s grasp, resulting in the kind of immersive reading experience that only comes along every few years.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)“Part ecological fable à la Ursula K. Le Guin, part foundational saga along the lines of Brian Moore's Black Robe and, yes, James Michener's Centennial, Proulx's story builds in depth and complication without becoming unduly tangled and is always told with the most beautiful language. Another tremendous book from Proulx, sure to find and enthrall many readers.” (Kirkus Reviews (Starred Review))“Proulx’s signature passion and concern for nature as well as her unnerving forensic fascination with all the harm that can befall the human body charge this rigorously researched, intrepidly imagined, complexly plotted, and vigorously written multigenerational epic. [With an] extensive and compelling cast, Proulx’s commanding epic about the annihilation of our forests is nothing less than a sylvan Moby-Dick replete with ardently exacting details about tree cutting from Canada and Maine to Michigan, California, and New Zealand, with dramatic cross-cultural relationships and with the peculiar madness catalyzed by nature’s glory. Here, too, are episodes of profound suffering and loss, ambition and conviction, courage and love. With a forthcoming National Geographic Channel series expanding its reach, Proulx’s commanding, perspective-altering epic will be momentous.” (Booklist, Starred Review)“[It’s] a tale too beautiful to miss, excellent for long afternoons spent swaying in a hammock.” (Good Housekeeping)“Magnificent... Barkskins flies... One of the chief pleasures of Proulx’s prose is that it conveys you to so many vanished wildwoods, where you get to stand ‘tiny and amazed in the kingdom of pines.’ This is also the great sadness of Barkskins. The propulsive tension here is generated not by wondering what will happen to each character, but by knowing that the forests will be leveled one after another... If Barkskins doesn’t bear exquisite witness to our species’s insatiable appetite for consumption, nothing can.” (Anthony Doerr, Outside Magazine)"A masterpiece." (Buzzfeed)“Annie Proulx – the magnificent American writer who brought us ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and ‘The Shipping News’ – scores once again with the captivating ‘Barkskins.’ . . . Her prose is often glorious, her several protagonists unforgettable. Proulx taps a vein here, helping to make ‘Barkskins” one of the most exciting books I have read in years. Proulx has pulled out all the stops." (Karen Brady, Buffalo News)“Barkskins is an awesome monument of a book, a spectacular survey of America’s forests dramatized by a cast of well-hewn characters.Such is the magnetism of Proulx’s narrative that there’s no resisting her thundering cascade of stories. A vast woods you’ll want to get lost in. . . Barkskins is a towering new work of environmental fiction.” (Ron Charles, The Washington Post)“Annie Proulx weaves [a] wealth of research, [and] brilliant imagination in [her] new novel Barkskins. Annie Proulx is a fearless writer. Like Melville's whaling and McMurtry's ranching, [Barkskins] provides a cast of colorful characters — and a means of examining their relationships to the natural world and the continent's indigenous people. [With] delicious prose . . . Barkskins has a large cast, but that's a showcase for Proulx's gift for creating lively, complex characters. Proulx's style is inimitably her own, but it echoes here with those of great influences: Dickens, Melville, Twain, Faulkner and more.” (Tampa Bay Times)“Annie Proulx returns with a great long read for the summer . . . Worth the wait, [Barkskins is] a stunning, bracing, full-tilt ride through 300 years of U.S. and Canadian history, told through two families whose fortunes are shaped, for better and worse, by the Europeans' discovery of North America's vast forests. With Barkskins, Annie Proulx blows out the horizons. The novel has a satisfying global sweep, with the type of full-immersion plot that keeps you curled in your chair, reluctant to stop reading. Barkskins is a tour de force.” (Elle)

If ever there was a literary work that should stand as the Bible for a particular cause--in this case two causes--Barkskins would be it. The causes it champions are the treatment of Native peoples by the white Europeans who conquered the Eastern parts of North America, and the horrific way these settlers "raped" the country by devastating the forests that grew here. Both of these actions from the end of the 17th century to the present time did more to change the nation we never knew into the nation we now inhabit. Neither of these actions have ever been really dissected for the damage they did. Barkskins is that dissection.Annie Proulx is a terrific writer. She can make unfamiliar situations such as logging, sheepherding, fishing and working on farms as familiar as what the bulk of our society actually knows now. We have no idea how hard our ancestors worked to simply survive--and how dangerous that work actually was, even under the best circumstances. We aren't, for the most part, well-versed in what it takes to cut a single tree to the ground, let alone what it took to clear millions of acres of them. How even after cutting, there were still the roots left in the ground to dig out, and what it did to the environment--the permanent changes it wrought--when the trees were gone. Food sources disappeared. Ecology changed drastically. And entire populations of people who lived in the forests and depended on the bio-systems they produced also disappeared from view. Yes, a lot of them resurfaced later--in-bred into white culture, or assimilated into other societies. But these were not the ones they had been born into, and they were not the ones that kept them alive and healthy. It was so much more than the Europeans bringing alcohol and smallpox and syphilis to the Native peoples--so very, very much more. Annie Proulx details what the "more" entailed, and how it happened. And when I say "details" I mean exactly that.Proulx details everything. From the first logging accident in the first chapters, to the last stinking paper mill rising on the banks of a Maine river, she tells the reader in excruciating detail what happened and what its consequences were then and have become now. And it is for this reason that despite the importance of this knowledge--and despite how much this matters to us now in the era of climate change and ecological disasters--it will not be heeded. This book is beautifully written and beautifully researched. It is meticulously plotted It is fascinating--but it will be all those things ONLY to a very small group of people. There are two reasons for this: one is that the book is huge. Many people who are more casual readers will not pick it up and start it, because it is about logging (it is, but it's so much more as well!) and because it's a thousand pages about logging. The second reason is that few people these days have the attention span needed to embrace such a story, which spans more than 300 years of history. The story begins in the 1690's and ends in 2014! Three hundred years of things to know is a lot of things that a lot of people just won't want to slog through. No matter how much this really isn't a "slog", but an absorbing, incredible story. That's a real shame, because even those people who should be interested probably will not pick this novel up and read it. They'll be missing a lot of information, and a lot of fuel for conversation. And an enriching experience unlike any that most novels impart.I did love it, but it took me a couple weeks of hard reading to get through it. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in history, Native people, ecology and biology, and family stories. But I'm going to warn you ahead of time--this isn't an easy read. Too bad--because it's a great read, easy or not. And the issues it uncovers are greatly important. If enough people took the time and effort and read through this book, our lives might just change for the better. I recommend it highly for those reasons. And for the reason that Annie Proulx is a great writer who should not be so marginalized.

I'm a little less than halfway through, which is to say I'm on page 289. Yes, exquisite writing, and a wonderful sense of place and time, historical time as it was actually lived. But, and of course I knew this going in, there are all of these tress coming down, decade after decade, and with them the world and way of life and reason for existing of the native people. It's depressing to witness this on the page. So there's that. Yesterday I found myself wishing for a plot device, a withheld secret or something, anything, that would make me want to keep turning the pages. I feel there is nothing to look forward to be a cascade of short lives, linked by their family tree relationships to the progenitor immigrants, Rene Sel and Charles Duquet. These lives all go by (after some larger time spent with Rene and Charles) so quickly like grains of sand running through an hourglass. The banality of almost everyone, or I suppose their hardscabble existences, make for uphill reading. Though, even where a character has the time and resources to cultivate an inner life (Outger Duke and his wife Beatrix come to mind), the reader is not given the enjoyment of these lives, only a desultory inventory, such a bitter cousin might hazard. I find this book bleak.

Disappointed. Stopped reading (listening) with only 10% of this long book left. Just couldn't feign interest any longer. I had read Close Range and The Shipping News and so came into Barkskins already a fan of Annie Proulx. With a substantial commute and regular long-distance car travel, I sprang for the audio version, which makes it even harder to lose steam--all I had to do was sit back and listen, right? (and I can't fault the narration by Robert Petkoff which was excellent.) However, in the end what was intended to be fascinating, insightful and epic turned into something disjointed, forced and trite.I had suspicions early on, was all but convinced about half way through, but resisted giving up until nearly the end when I fully admitted to myself that I would prefer the static-y talk of AM radio to giving this novel even just a few more hours. No doubt Proulx was at her best when masterfully telling agenda-less stories--creating wonderfully off-kilter characters and story-lines with stunning prose. Although this talent is still visible in Barkskins, it seems faded and misapplied, like Picasso painting for detergent ads. Perhaps Proulx felt a need to turn her life’s work toward some higher purpose and chose an environmental theme. At times the characters devolve into hardly more than cardboard cut-outs woodily mouthing axioms and principles of either forest ecology, unbridled greed or Native American history. One gets the impression that a suddenly didactic Proulx started with a set of principles or view-points, both modern and historical, and sketched characters to match, pushing each to the stage in their turn to deliver their line so that the next would have context for theirs.Proulx story-telling that once seemed born of a finely-tuned, if slightly-twisted, genius, in Barkskins turns toward the manufactured and formulaic. Now I’m all for saving the forests, treating everybody fairly and employing ethically sound and sustainable business practices, but a 700-page parable to teach all of these lessons proved a bit tiresome. One wonders, moreover, with the “moral high-ground” so fully claimed from a modern politically-correct point of view, whether some big-name reviewers backed away from a proper criticism of the book--perhaps afraid of being labelled a hater or doubter or simply out of respect for Proulx’s prior accomplishments.Might have to go re-read "Pair a Spurs" or "The Bunchgrass Edge of the World" to restore my admiration for Annie Proulx!

Loads of helpful info. Before buying be aware, this is primarily a step by step guide of how to plan your trip and has little about what to do when you're actually in individual cities. I doubt I'll actually bring it with me to Europe. Definitely worth it though!

If you ever want to travel to Europe you could have NO better guide than this one. I watched Rick Steve's television program one night and saw this advertised and it is SO good I've been reading it cover to cover. This is PACKED with GREAT information about how to pack, how to get the best prices, how to enjoy your trip, how to avoid being the victim of a pickpocket, etc., etc., etc. This is worth every single penny you pay for it.

The best book on travel skills ever written. My only suggestion is to read the parts that apply to the countries you are visiting, overwise it can get overwhelming as the book is packed with information, many pages. If you are thinking of traveling independently, you really need this book.

Lots of helpful information, but too much to take with you to reference on a trip. Read and take notes before you go.

Fabulous as always! Thank you Rick!! Used for 3 weeks this summer. As a medically fragile traveler, this helped us decide what to do, what to spend my energy on. While not written for that purpose, it helped tremendously. Followed suggestion of ripping out just the pages for countries we were visiting. Hard for this book lover to do, but helped keep things light.

Excellent information for how to go about European travel if you have had no foreign travel experience, and even if you have. Where to go, what to see, how to do it all.

Great book and I found it to be very up-to-date. A bit heavy so take Ricks advice and tear out only what you need. I did just that.

This is a great resource for planning a trip to Europe. The only thing I wish it had more of were photos of the destinations, as that would help me decide where to go instead of having to sift through a bunch of additional travel guides. It's a small qualm as the advice Rick Steves offers here is invaluable.

From School Library Journal

K-Gr 2—It's the Land Sharks (carnivores) versus the Algae Eaters (herbivores) in the swim meet at the center of this latest addition to the series. As in the previous books, readers will find an accurate depiction of the sport, even if license is taken with the participants. The dinosaurs compete in events from medley and freestyle to a diving competition, culminating in a relay that the Algae Eaters come together to win, even if their opponents win the meet. The dinosaurs behave just like kids, pouting at times, making false starts, and displaying nerves. Though sometimes dinosaurs' names are shortened to fit the scheme of the rhyming text (for example, "Ankylo's rhythms are slow and steady"), learning about dinosaurs is not really the point. VERDICT Bright illustrations full of movement and a bouncy rhyming text convey the basics of a swim meet in a fun way.—Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Carroll County Public Library, MD

"It's the Land Sharks (carnivores) versus the Algae Eaters (herbivores) in the swim meet at the center of this latest addition to the series. As in the previous books, readers will find an accurate depiction of the sport itself, even if license is taken with the participants. The dinosaurs compete in events from medley and freestyle to a diving competition, culminating in a relay that the Algae Eaters come together to win, even if their opponents win the meet. The dinosaurs behave just like kids, pouting at times, making false starts, and displaying nerves. VERDICT: Bright illustrations full of movement and a bouncy rhyming text convey the basics of a swim meet in a fun way."--School Library Journal--Journal"The dinosaur teams from the seven previous dino-sports mash-up books by Wheeler and Gott don their Speedos, caps, and goggles for a swim meet between the Land Sharks (carnivores) and the Algae Eaters (herbivores). Fans of the other books will find much of the same here--a text in rhyming couplets, and lots of action with little characterization or nuance--exactly as the coverage of a sporting event should be. A smidgen of drama comes into play when Triceratops is disqualified; however, in this case, it's an honest mistake, rather than the squabbling that has cropped up between the dinos in past sporting events. With each team winning a few races, the result is a nail-biting finish. The energetic, brightly colored illustrations feature stylized dinosaurs with enough authenticity that little dinosaur experts will be appeased. Diehard dino-sports fans will be relieved that the final page confirms there will be a ninth dino sporting event--one that involves cars."--Booklist--Journal

Great series! Kids learn about the sports via the dinosaurs that play them.

There is a whole series of these books and I've given them all 5 stars. This one doesn't disappoint - another winner!! Various swimming events are included with the story given in rhyme. My 8-year-old son and his friends all fight over them at the library, so I've been buying them as the different seasons come up and now as they become available. Can't wait for the next one!

Dinosaurs + sports + colorful illustrations + humor = WIN!!!!! My son loves this series. The seller sent this quickly and without any problems.

My husband is a high school swim coach for over 30 years and read this book to his team before a year end meet. They loved it!

Our family loves reading these books! We started with dino -hockey and now own almost all of them. The rhyming and story lines are silly and exciting. And I have to admit, I'm learning a lot of awesome dinosaur names! Thank you!

loving it! as a swimmer this was a fun book to read, also as an adult. My pre students loved it, we can't wait to read the other in the series.also read this to my 7 yard nephew, new joy of going to the pool whit him :)

Love this series. Combines the two things boys like. Dinosaurs and sports.

My kids love the whole Dino sports series and this book was a good addition to the series. They can't wait till Dino racing comes out!

Review

“THE ARTIST’S WAY by Julia Cameron is not exclusively about writing—it is about discovering and developing the artist within whether a painter, poet, screenwriter or musician—but it is a lot about writing. If you have always wanted to pursue a creative dream, have always wanted to play and create with words or paints, this book will gently get you started and help you learn all kinds of paying-attention techniques; and that, after all, is what being an artist is all about. It’s about learning to pay attention.” --Anne Lamott, Mademoiselle   “The premise of the book is that creativity and spirituality are the same thing, they come from the same place. And we were created to use this life to express our individuality, and that over the course of a lifetime that gets beaten out of us. [THE ARTIST’S WAY] helped me put aside my fear and not worry about whether the record would be commercial.” --Grammy award-winning singer Kathy Mattea   “Julia Cameron brings creativity and spirituality together with the same kind of step-by-step wisdom that Edgar Cayce encouraged. The result is spiritual creativity as a consistent and nourishing part of daily life.” --Venture Inward   “I never knew I was a visual artist until I read Julia Cameron’s THE ARTIST’S WAY.” --Jannene Behl in Artist’s Magazine   “Julia Cameron’s landmark book THE ARTIST’S WAY helped me figure out who I really was as an adult, not so much as an artist but as a person. And award-winning journalist and poet, Cameron’s genius is that she doesn’t tell readers what they should do to achieve or who they should be—instead she creates a map for readers to start exploring these questions themselves.” --Michael F. Melcher, Law Practice magazine   “This is not a self-help book in the normative sense. It is simply a powerful book that can challenge one to move into an entirely different state of personal expression and growth.” --Nick Maddox, Deland Beacon   “THE ARTIST’S WAY (with its companion volume THE ARTIST’S WAY MORNING PAGES JOURNAL) becomes a friend over time, not just a journal. Like a journal, it provokes spontaneous insights and solutions; beyond journaling, it establishes a process that is interactive and dynamic.” --Theresa L. Crenshaw, M.D., San Diego Union-Tribune    “If you really want to supercharge your writing, I recommend that you get a copy of Julia Cameron’s book THE ARTIST’S WAY. I’m not a big fan of self-help books, but this book has changed my life for the better and restored my previously lagging creativity.” --Jeffrey Bairstow, Laser Focus World   “Working with the principle that creative expression is the natural direction of life, Cameron developed a three month program to recover creativity. THE ARTIST’S WAY shows how to tap into the higher power that connects human creativity and the creative energies of the universe.” --Mike Gossie, Scottsdale Tribune   “THE ARTIST’S WAY is the seminal book on the subject of creativity and an invaluable guide to living the artistic life. Still as vital today—or perhaps even more so—than it was when it was first published in 1992, it is a provocative and inspiring work. Updated and expanded, it reframes THE ARTIST’S WAY for a new century.” --Branches of Light   “THE ARTIST’S WAY has sold over 3 million copies since its publication in 1992. Cameron still teaches it because there is sustained demand for its thoughtful, spiritual approach to unblocking and nurturing creativity. It is, dare we say, timeless.” --Nancy Colasurdo, FOXBusiness Praise for VEIN OF GOLD, the second volume in the ARTIST’S WAY trilogy   “For those seeking the wellspring of creativity, this book, like its predecessor, is a solid gold diving rod.” --PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

Published in 2002, it is alsoa workbook where you go through the different exercises over a period of 12 weeks or three months. I did all the exercises, including the morning pages. It shifted me as a person as well as helped me acknowledge the creative side of who I am. It’s really freed out some of my inner wounds and also helped me to feel much more liberated and be more creative in my personal and professional life.I recommend this book to all people, even those who don’t think that they’re creative because really, when we allow our inner child to come out and play, we have much more joy in our lives and this will allow us to be creative in other areas in our personal and professional life.Whatever job that you are in, you may think it does not involve creativity. You’ll be wrong. There are elements of creativity in everything that we do. Be a fuller person so that you are just much more integrated with all that you are so that you reach your fullest potential.

The Kindle edition is an excellent choice for using the Artists's Way workbook. Previously I had bought the print spiral bound edition, hoping to use it but I never did, because I did not want to fill in the pages of the print book, so as to save the print book for re-use or to sell later. However, in the Kindle edition, I am able to go on to my PC and copy and paste the assignments and tasks into my own Word documents, making my own book in effect to use and re-use and type in the assignments in the actual pages. To me it is well worth the extra cost to have the Kindle edition workbook to avoid typing in the assignments..

I loved it! I decided to actually follow the guidelines for the book - one chapter a week, doing the written exercises, the morning pages, the artist day..and I stuck to it. That is not usual for me, but I decided to give it a try..and it worked! I still do not go to my studio as often as I should and I am still not as disciplined as I should be..but it doesn't bother me as much and I keep to the thought that this should be fun...and I have more fun! The side effect that I had completely not anticipated at all, was that I lost 25 pounds over the 16 weeks (16 chapters) and I wasn't even trying. Doing the written exercises, thinking through the material, remembering things, and writing morning pages, reduced anxiety and stress and I guess I just ate less. That made me feel good, and good feelings kept building, so, I really recommend this book to anyone who wants to try a 16week course to reexamine your life journey and pursue a more creative life ahead. I have now bought this book for so many friends..but it really doesn't do the magic unless you put the time into it. So, if you buy it, agree to all the exercises, or it is just another self-help book that will not sink in. Good luck!

This book is very engaging with a variety of activities. However I also purchased the 25th anniversary Edition and there is too much redundancy to warrant purchasing both.

This is a journey. A journey of a lifetime. If you are so fortunate to open this book and workbook; your life could not ever be the same . The book took away the pain of no decisions, bad decisions and decisions made for me. I did and you may discover the creative person you are and were meant to be. Nothing is the same, for me I have broken chains that bound me to labor. I have re constructed who I am. Please get these 2 items and join me in a life worth living that can never be stolen or lost again.

I bought this as a gift and haven't heard how she liked it. I loved it, as did my niece when i gave it to her a few years ago. However, although I expected the anniversary edition to be especially nice it actually wasn't as nice as the original and I regretted choosing it.

Some people may not like this workbook because it's lined pages with quotes. That's it. But, for me, it's very helpful as a way to get me to actually do it. There are exactly 3 pages for each day of the 12 week program. If you don't fill the 3-pages, then you're behind. For me, this is helpful in motivating me to get up early and fill in the 3 pages. Plus, the quotes make writing more meaningful.

Even though it’s a bit too spiritual for me, honestly I almost quit on the book after reading the intro. and I was really rather skeptical about how this book would help me. It sounded a bit corny like self help book for artist. Like chicken soap for the artist soul. But getting past that and actually getting into doing the assignments and homework the book ask that you do week after week. I found the book was really helpful. I guess its like anything else where you get what you put in out of it and it’s different for everyone.I read somewhere that this book might have come out too soon for its own good. I think that if had added what we know today about neurology and how the brain works, instead of the spiritual stuff it would have been better off.I have recommended this book to others (artist friends) and have had moments where I felt I needed to reread a curtain part or do a curtain writing task again. Underneath the things that turned me off, there really are some priceless gems within the pages. And if you make it too the end of the 12 weeks you’ll be glad you did.But depending on who you are and how many issues you might have (rough childhood, stuff thats happen to you in the past) I recommend this book with a bit a caution. This book causes you to face a lot of things. So just be ready for that.
