I'm a sucker for Romeo and Juliet stories. Specifically, it's the family duty vs. romantic love conflict that's a hook. This also has cultural conflicts, supernatural humans, gorgeous characters, and beautifully drawn pages. The unique colors on the first pages might look best in print, which I'd like to see.Update: After reading this volume several times, I'm bumping up my rating. The details I missed the first time(s) improve the story with every reading.

This is an excellent opening volume! I already wait for the next one! As a clan of werewolves battles the mafia family that seeks revenge on them, two of them unbeknownst to their respective sides fall in love. I'm rooting for the werewolves! Josh and Coyote have a lot of figuring things out to do, but boy do they have some raaaawwr sex :-) Beautifully drawn, handsome hard bodies <3

I had to read this one twice to see if I just missed something. It drew me in with the art and the summary. While the characters are interesting, [SPOILER ALERT] it is the standard, Romeo and Juliet trope . Which, when well written, is good[End Spoiler]. The plot was just weak in this, the focus was almost exclusively on the 'heat' of Coyote. If you are reading this for a sex scenes, it is a good read, it is light enough that you don't need to think too hard about the content.I loved the art, which is what brings it up to a three from a two. Beautifully drawn. This is not something for those who want a cute yaoi story.

Holy mother of Mary! This was absolutely wonderful! Dying for the next volume!

An amazing yaoi of star-crossed lovers, danger, and (of course) passion! Everything a good romance needs all rolled into one beautifully drawn manga.

I thought this manga was amazing. Great story so far, I love the characters and their interactions. Can't wait for the next one.

I smell a sort of Romeo and Juliet plot.

The artwork is gorgeous, especially the color pages at the front. The art is worth 5-stars.The story, on the other hand, was a bit cringe. The thing I found most off putting is how dub-con the book is. One of the main characters kept saying no and the other had sex with him anyways. Repeatedly.

From Booklist

Growing up in the Bronx, 13-year-old Tommy tends to overlook the newspaper headlines and go straight to the sports pages. But the year is 1940. His friend Beth anxiously follows unfolding events in Dunkirk, their friend Sarah worries about her relatives in Nazi-occupied Vienna, and soon Tommy finds himself concerned about events taking place an ocean away. When his mother’s mysterious ailment grows worse, Tommy stops playing stickball after school to help out more at home. Adler builds a straightforward story in which small changes, decisions, and revelations gradually shift the main character’s outlook and concerns over a period of time. The signs that Tommy has grown up a bit are subtle, but perhaps that’s what makes them believable. Using historical details to good effect, this quiet novel gives readers the sense that they are looking in on the actual period rather than viewing a stage set crammed with 1940s props. An engaging and very accessible historical novel. Grades 4-7. --Carolyn Phelan

As more and more schools emphasize basic math and language arts skills, most students are rarely exposed to historical content. Historical fiction is an ideal way to bridge this gap and learn about previous eras. Don’t Talk to Me About the War, takes middle level readers on a journey back to life in America during World War II. Tommy Duncan and his teenage friends share the latest happenings after reading newspaper stories and listening to the radio. These tidbits of information derive from actual newspaper stories and radio shows. Thus, the novel provides excellent insight into this time period on multiple levels. Facts surrounding 1940s baseball are also sprinkled throughout the story. Readers will instantly be able to compare today’s acquisition of information with the limited access in the 1940s.As America tries to decide its future role in the war, Tommy gradually becomes more aware of what is happening overseas. His perspective expands beyond the confines of his life in New York. He develops compassion as he listens to one of his Jewish friends recount some of the personal horrors of the Holocaust. His conversations with his friends make him more aware of the European crisis. His character matures in the process.Additionally, he watches hopelessly as his mother suffers from an undiagnosed illness. While thinking about his mother’s first doctor’s appointment, Tommy starts to put his life into perspective. “No matter what is happening in your life, the world moves on.” 77 After his mother is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Tommy must make personal sacrifices and choices that illustrate his character’s strength. The pace of the story is kept in check by the interaction between the characters. Tommy’s friendships provide an understanding of his characters strengths and weaknesses. His response to his mother’s health also sheds light on his ability to cope with a challenging family situation. The memorable characters and well paced story will keep young readers interested in this historical fiction story set in the 1940s.

In an engaging and realistic piece of historical fiction, David A. Adler spins the tale of Tommy, a 13-year-old boy living in New York City on the brink of World War II. Tommy, like most of his classmates, would much rather worry about baseball scores, neighborhood stickball games, and his crush on pretty Beth than fuss about the fighting happening all the way across the ocean.Unfortunately, the war is all that Beth wants to talk about these days, despite Tommy’s protests that he doesn’t want to hear about it. After all, he’s convinced that he has more important things to fill his head with, not the least of which is his mother’s rapidly deteriorating health. How could battles in Europe possibly be more important than the things happening on his own doorstep? As the story progresses, of course, the war begins to affect Americans more and more, and Tommy begins to see its influences at work: a friend’s brother is enlisting in the Navy, Winston Churchill is giving passionate speeches on the radio urging America to join the fight, and a Jewish classmate worries desperately about family who is trapped in Nazi-occupied Vienna. The war soon becomes an unavoidable topic, and one that he himself becomes interested in after all.Tommy’s coming of age story is subtle and informative, and readers will enjoy cheering on Tommy’s blossoming relationship with Beth and learning more about the World War II homefront from his point of view. This review originally appeared on abookandahug.com

Thirteen-year-old Tommy Duncan is a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, plays stickball with his pals, and meets his friend Beth at Goldman's diner every morning before school. There is one other thing that is important to him: "Don't talk to me about the war. It's across the ocean, and I haven't even been to Long Island and that's just over the bridge. What I mean is, the war's so far away and we're not even in it, and anyway, it's all Beth talks about, so if there's any war stuff I should know, she'll tell me."But the war isn't the only thing occupying Tommy's attention. His mother is growing increasingly weak, her vision blurs, sometimes her hands shake, and she tends to drop things. Tommy and his father are understandably worried, and only temporarily reassured when a doctor informs them that she is tired and possibly depressed. Sharing his concerns with Beth (whose mother passed away, and from whom she received a penchant for reading newspapers) helps Tommy cope with the family crisis: a crisis which comes to a head when, after a major setback, Mrs. Duncan receives the frightening diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.Yet the war becomes more and more a part of Tommy's world. It is 1940 and, as Beth constantly reminds him, things are not looking good in Europe. And Sarah, a new student, comes to the Bronx from Mexico, having fled with her parents and two young cousins from Holland, Austria, and Germany. As Tommy learns more of Sarah's story, he begins to realize the importance of defeating the Germans--and comes to believe Eleanor Roosevelt's comment: "I don't want to go to war. But war may come to us." And the war does come to Tommy's world, along with other major changes in his life.David A. Adler (the author of such varied books as the Cam Jansen series, One Yellow Daffodil, and numerous kid-friendly math titles) has once again demonstrated his versatility. This rich, multi-layered novel has so many elements that make a story great: family dynamics, the meaning and importance of friendship, well-developed and believable characters, and surprising insights into the people in Tommy's universe--against a backdrop of the historical realities of the time. Details such as Sarah's family keeping kosher and the popular radio programs of the day give depth and add accuracy to the story. Tommy's journey of discovery is one readers won't soon forget. This is historical fiction at its finest. 216 pages. Ages 11-14

I have found that this really does have a lot of useful information, usually the most pertinent information from any given topic. It doesn't cover everything my Mother/Baby class in nursing school covered so I couldn't find information for every topic in here, but what it had, was useful. It covered the major topics atleast. Very good product. Easy to read and understand.

I have used this to review the material in my main course text, especially with finals coming up, and I can say it made a world of difference. Unfortunately, my main course text was about 100 pages longer than it should have due to fluff and repetition so having this to condense all those pages was great. Covered most of the topic areas in my main text so I could see what I needed work on to bounce back to my main book on. Some values and data were slightly off from my main text (or visa versa) but overall, loved it. The Straight A's series actually saved me in pharmacology too!

If your looking for ways to improve your grades in maternal-neonatal nursing this is an excellent source. Your grade will improve after reading this book. For me i found it helpful in passing my exams with higher grades. It comes with a CD for more practice in answering question. I would recommend this book for grade improvement and easy to understand course material. Many of the question will come up on school exams as well as your nclex exams.

Really helped with OB! OB was probably the most difficult class I took in nursing school. This book definitely helped clarify a lot of subjects I just wasn't understand in class or with my required textbook. Definitely recommend this book as well as the Straight A's in Pediatric Nursing to help with those who have problems in mother-baby classes!

Great book! Easily to understand for nursing students

I loan these to my students to study for HESI's.

A great book and must have for OB. This book helped me throughout the entire semester with 90% on tests and 1041 on hesi. Passing score for hesi for my school is 850 and this book helped me to exceed that amount. Only person in my class to pass with a "A". You won't regret this book.

Great book but ensure that you will use all the books you buy.

Review

My pal Adam's FUNNIEST MEMOIR ever, came out TODAY. D'ja get it yet? My fist to God - it's hilarious!—Bob Odenkirk (@mrbobodenkirk)“Adam Resnick doesn't merely summon the jaundice and surprise of early David Sedaris, his mini memoirs are unpretentious reminders of John Updike's everyman absurdities and Richard Ford's bewildered strivers. A biting, darkly hilarious collection of personal essays that begs to be read aloud.” —Chicago Tribune (A Best Book of the Year, 2014)             “[A] gruff, wry paean to life’s indignities...essays here aren’t just stand-up skits but have actual plots—in which things go horrifically, uproariously wrong…Anyone who watches Larry David will be familiar with Resnick’s hearty style of tell-it-like-it-is meanness.—Lisa Zeidner, The Washington Post"An anti-social work of art."—RollingStone.com “[A] dark, hilarious first book….Resnick is a guy thoroughly uncomfortable in his own skin, and he knows how to wring laughs and pathos out of that fact...[he] delivers his sad little histories with wit, insight and hilarious detail.  [Like] kindred spirits Louis C.K. and Larry David, he just wants the rest of the world to see how stupid it all is.”—Josh Modell, AV Club  (A Favorite Book of the Year, 2014)“A streak of self-loathing runs through these stories with the anti-social Resnick repeatedly finding himself struggling through a humiliating or deeply irritating experience. However, that trenchant quality is occasionally undercut by an almost subliminal level of sweetness….Resnick’s cynical sensibilities are surprisingly raw and consistently hilarious….Will Not Attend could very well be one of the funniest books released this year.”—Splitsider“The essays reveal the potty-mouthed, definitely not politically correct, and totally opinionated author at the top of his game. He takes on Disneyland and the Disney philosophy with gusto while on the side using a family trip to destroy the relationship with his sister-in-law. His take on junk food is priceless (“Only a narcissistic asshole would consider his body a temple”). Readers will relish this book. Buy plenty.”—Booklist “The writing is sharp and sharp-tongued … the book is not for readers who are easily offended. The author’s aversion to just about everything paints him as nihilistic and cynical, but the subtle moments of genuine vulnerability remain the heart of every story. These moments prove redemptive for a character who sometimes feels beyond saving and shed light on how he developed such comically twisted viewpoints. A neurotic, unapologetic, hilarious collection.”—Kirkus “Writing a collection of short stories is a very difficult thing to do. These Adam Resnick stories are great. You read one and think, that was so well done maybe I’ll read another. You think, the next one can’t be as good, and it’s even better. I hope you read this book. It’s funny, smart and thoughtful; and it’s funny, smart and thoughtful. I loved it. I think you will as well. Did I mention I loved it? Happy reading.”—Dave Letterman “Having worked with Adam Resnick many years ago, I can easily recall he was a little nuts, but I completely forgot he was this talented and funny. Damn, this book is good.”—Jon Stewart “Adam Resnick is one of the funniest writers I've ever known, and he proves it big-time in this acid-swaddled memoir.  You will laugh reading this book, I swear to Christ Almighty.  Adam comes by his misanthropy honestly and bravely—and his continued existence is a tribute to the soul-nourishing qualities of an unrelenting, unforgiving, and hilarious outlook. I will be reading this again and again for the rest of my life like it'sthe goddamn bible.”—Bob Odenkirk “In the ideal film adaptation of Will Not Attend, second-grader Adam Resnick would be played by a four-foot-tall, fully adult homunculus Resnick, animated by a precocious despair, disdainful of cultural idiocy, and wearing the ever-present scowl of the perpetually put-upon. Undoubtedly, the child Resnick is father of the man Resnick. This is a very funny book, and I would pay decent money to see the movie version, or even to play it in the form of an extremely sad video game.”—Charlie Kaufman “Adam Resnick is like an artist keenly observing the subtleties of light and shadow in the world around us—painting hilariously bleak portraits of the neighbors, friends, and family that we all know and love so dearly. He’s basically our generation’s Norman Rockwell, if Norman Rockwell had ever painted a woman sucking off a horse.”—Chris Elliott

As everyone knows, authentic humor is very difficult to produce. Adam Resnick is my kind of dude; he understands what it is like to not want to mingle with the others in this world of vulgarity and loudness. The director of the classic and understated film, Cabin Boy, this is a true exploration of the inner workings of a overworked brain. Starting this collection with an amazing essay about a world changing experience at a fellow classmates Easter party, Resnick is just warming up in the bullpen as he proceeds to amaze us with his true skills at allowing us to be party to a true comic genius at work! A true outsider in his vision, this collection is an acquired taste in comic reflections and if this is wrong then I am all for it. Laugh out loud funny stuff that is the show of pure wacky eccentricity at its best. Either you will get this or you won't. The stuff that legends are made of!

Resnick’s humor is dark and not very subtle. It’s also not very well modulated. A really good comic masters voice and timing. For Resnick there is generally only one tone—loud, and one point of view—witheringly anti-social. There were a very few really good essays. His encounter with his father over the phone was hilarious and engaging; so was the story about his daughter and the piano. Now I understand where the dark side of Letterman came from. But I can only take Letterman in small doses. Same for this fellow. For the most part he reminds me of the later Larry David. At first the nasty streak is shockingly funny. But the nasty does not wear well. Hate is not a lasting basis for humor. Comedy can have an edge, but love and understanding must play their part. Resnick loses the thread far too often. He doesn’t really like himself very much and it shows. He is at his best when he talks about the few people he loves—his young daughter and his now aged father.

You CAN NOT read this as a bedtime book. You'll never get to sleep. You'll laugh so much your tears will run down your face and you'll forget to be sleepy! The funniest book I've ever read, bar none!RH

I read this book after hearing Adam Resnick on Comedy Bang Bang. This book is really fun. There's even a cool "interactive" section at the end with coloring pages and word finds and stuff. The only complaint I have is that there was too much graphic detail about slaughter houses, but not even in a "slaughter houses are bad" kind of way... It was almost pro slaughterhouses, but it was still really gruesome and it was mentioned in almost every essay. Some of the connections seemed forced which made it worse. there was one story where Adam tells about this bag he got from a book store and he likens the way his belonging fit inside to "the warm, glove like feeling of hands breaking through worn down, bloated pig flesh." Awesome book though.

Adam Resnick is a sad sack and it's great. These little memoirs are a depressing look into this man's head but as he masterfully recounts his childhood days and other events you can tell the man is truly disturbed but also extremely funny. He's rude and politically incorrect throughout the entire book and that's just fine.

If you enjoy dysfunctional family fun, Adam Resnick's book is full of it - as well as a few dysfunctional all-growed-up tales. The real star of this book is Resnick's dad, Merv, a character who deserves his own movie, or at the very least, his own FX show after "Louie." Will Not Attend features a bunch of short biographical essays, in no particular order that I could determine, that all pack a punch. The book is short and ends a little abruptly - and I, for one, would like to know how he got into comedy writing after abandoning a less-than-promising career in life insurance after high school - but what's here is gold.

Every word of this book is funny to me. I love the cynicism dripping from every story. He is so witty and dry and paces each story perfectly. I can't believe anyone could give this 1 or 2 stars. They are obviously people I have nothing in common with.

I rated "Will Not Attend" four stars because it's hilariously entertaining. I saw the author Adam Resnick on the Dave Letterman show, and was impressed! I had to read his book to see if it was as funny as he; it definitely is. His hero in the book is almost a recluse; hates to interact at any level and lives in his own slightly weird world. It's not for children; it contains some pretty offensive language and situations. Nothing you haven't heard before, but don't let the kiddies get their hands on it. It's diverting, lively and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

*****As someone who lives with chronic pain, I found this book to be uplifting and encouraging, giving me hope for the first time in a long time. I have tried and tried to exercise but always injure myself and end up with an additional problem contributing to my pain syndrome. After so many years of doing this I basically had given up. Now I have what I believe is a way to feel better. It will take hard work and time, and so I will post updates here. With the exercises in this book, you start where you can--wherever that is--and work up from there. The author gives many examples of people with issues like mine who start at a low level and after a matter of persistence and patience end up with less pain and greater mobility. I am encouraged. The first part of the book discusses chronic pain--what it is and what causes it. The author reviews the new research about fascia and how doing simple "esssentric" (muscle lengthening and strengthening) exercises is the best way to renew and rebalance our bodies and get out of chronic pain. Today 20% of all people in the U.S. are suffering with chronic pain! The author explains scientific concepts in such a simple, clear way. She describes the "pain loop" and how to break it. She explains the new scientific discoveries of how fitness industry standards can cause injury and how all concentric exercise (the exercise that most exercise Americans do that shortens and strengthens our muscles) needs to be balanced with eccentric exercise to avoid injury and pain. The author explains much about the fascia--our connective tissues--and how new science informs how we must care of it if we want to age well. Throughout the book there are examples of people who struggle with chronic pain and about how through the "Essentrics" technique (developed by the author) they conquered their pain syndromes. The author has been featured many times on PBS and is also the author of a previous book, "Aging Backwards". She has DVDs out demonstrating the techniques, as well as a channel (for pay) that live streams all of her workouts. However, anyone could figure out how to do the exercises from the book, as they are illustrated and described in detail, along with correct and incorrect postures for the exercises. The first 60 or so pages of the book is explanation of the theory behind the Essentrics technique and the rest is specific workouts for: warmup, foot and ankle, knee, hip, back, upper back and shoulder, connective tissue, immune system, arthritis, and stress. Most of the workouts (if not all) use all of the body's 650 muscles and 384 joints. And you might need a few commonly found props like a chair or a blanket, but no special equipment at all.Highly recommended.*****

OMG--this very gentle 30 minute routine got rid of my pain. The instructor talks about what causes our pain while you go through the routine and shes right. We need to be more gentle with our bodies and she's had her share of pain. The dvd is kinda pricey but worth every penny.

This book describes in detail the pain reducing aspects of Classical Stretch/Essentrics. The second part of the book has exercises for prevention/relief divided into sections (ex. back, feet/calves, etc). Very good for both long time followers of the program and those new to it.

Forever Painless may in fact be the resource I’ve been looking for. Up until this point I haven’t been able to find any form of exercise that my body could tolerate consistently. This book gives me hope!In Part One, Esmonde-White explains the ins and outs of chronic pain and why her approach makes sense. Though she is clearly very knowledgeable on this subject, her writing style makes the information accessible – and really interesting – even for the most medically novice. The second part of the book is divided into exercises, including a basic warm-up and workouts that target certain areas or causes of pain. The exercises are described with easy-to-follow instructions as well as pictures for those of us that need both in order to figure out what the heck we’re supposed to be doing. (Coordinated I am not) I zeroed in on the Connective Tissue workout and the Immune System workout… but what really impacted me was the question she asks and answers – How can I stretch while I’m in pain? This is something I have asked more than one of my doctors, including my rheumatologist and my neurologist, without getting any helpful answers. I practically have that little section of the book memorized now! There are many great things about Forever Painless, especially for those of us who have been seeking a resource like this for a while. The information is engaging and easy to understand, and the exercises are doable and well-described. Perhaps the best thing about Forever Painless though is that Miranda Esmonde-White leaves the reader – the person who is weary of pain – with the hope that there IS hope. That we don’t have to simply “manage” our pain, but that complete relief is entirely possible. (At the same time, she is also realistic with some conditions for which a cure from pain may not be achieved.) I am looking forward to incorporating her workouts into my daily routine and becoming less sedentary.(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

Good book but difficult to read in the Kindle format. It is not easy to see the pictorial descriptions of the exercises in such a small black and white format. I might try the book from the library to see if I can follow it better.

Don't waste your $$ on this book. While informative, each chapter just repeats itself using different verbiage. You'll get better info from her exercise DVD's and/or workout program on PBS.

I am a fan of the Classical Stretch/Essentrics workouts, so I bought this book as a quick reference. I would recommend buying the Classical Stretch DVDs, especially the TV series versions. My favorite is Season 11. I have gotten much pain relief from doing the exercises and recommend Miranda Esmonde-White's stretches for anyone who wants to feel better and look better. It has kept me from having any recurrences with Sciatica and has gotten rid of my severe foot pain. I can walk barefoot on hard floors without pain. In the past, I had to wear shoes indoors because my feet were so painful. Now, that's a thing of the past.

Review:Having not read a book on Lou Gehrig since middle school and wanting to learn more about the man, I picked up this book hoping to learn more about his playing career and how he dealt with the prospect of facing death. Those topics are certainly covered, but there is so much more to this book that it should be on every baseball fan’s list of books to read.Meticulous research and superb writing make this book one of the most definitive biographies of Gehrig. The reader will learn about the man through many communications he made with doctors, his wife Eleanor and other important people in his life. The letters he exchanged with physicians at the Mayo Clinic, where his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) was first diagnosed, were very moving. The same goes for his letters to Eleanor, especially the one written to her when he first learns of the disease and is optimistic that he will get better.Gehrig went to the Mayo Clinic when he noticed how fast his baseball skills were deteriorating in 1939. Both this decline and Gehrig’s outstanding baseball career are covered by superb research and writing as well. No matter how one analyzes his career, Gehrig is one of the greatest players in the history of the game, yet Eig writes of his baseball prowess without a lot of fawning or exaggeration. The matter-of-fact style made reading about Gehrig’s accomplishments seem even more impressive.Eig also writes about Gehrig’s personal life in a style that will keep any reader engrossed in the topic. Whether it is about his childhood in which his mother was very protective, the shy young man who did not socialize often with his Yankee teammates, or his marriage at 30 to an outspoken woman, the reader will gain insight into what made Gehrig into the man that he became.Of course, no discussion about Gehrig can be complete without mentioning the moments that made him a legendary baseball player. Eig sets the record straight on what makes Gehrig seem larger than life. For example, the myth that Gehrig began his streak of 2,130 consecutive games played because Wally Pipp complained of a headache and was replaced by Gehrig is set straight in the book. The streak actually began the previous day when Gehrig appeared as a pinch hitter. Also, Pipp did not complain of a headache that day and instead was benched when manager Miller Huggins wanted to juggle his lineup. It doesn’t make the streak or the myth any less impressive, but Eig ensures that the correct story about the beginning of the streak is told.It is this kind of research and writing that make this book one of the best sports biographies available. The reader will truly feel like he or she knows more about the man after reading this and will also have run through a full gamut of emotions when completing the book. One doesn’t have to be a baseball fan to enjoy this biography. Anyone who wants to learn the complete story of the man should read this book.Pace of the book:While I never was able to read large sections of this book in one sitting, it still was a fairly quick read in the total time it took me, especially considering the length of the book and some of the material, such as the medical sections describing ALS.Do I recommend?Readers who like baseball biographies or even biographies in general, will enjoy this book. With the in-depth research and narration about each important topic, this book should appeal to a wide range of readers. No matter how a reader has learned about Lou Gehrig, whether through baseball, the movie about his life or just word of mouth, the reader will certainly learn something new about the man.

A superbly told tale of the life and death of one of baseball's all-time greats. If you thought you'd heard everything there is to know about this powerful yet gentle man, grab a copy of this book and start reading. From Lou's early family life, through high school and then into baseball at Columbia and finally the Yankees, Gehrig's story is compelling, star-studded and wonderfully presented. His tragic battle with ALS, still at an age where he could easily have rewritten baseball's record book, unfolds in heartbreaking detail. Through it all, we see what an amazing soul Gehrig was, and how his understated lifestyle compared with most of the ballplayers of yesterday and today set him apart. Jonathan Eig's treatment of this amazing story makes this a biography for the ages. Again, no matter how much you thought you knew about Lou Gehrig, even after seeing the Gary Cooper film about his life, you'll enjoy and learn from this fine book.

This is a terrifically well researched and well written biography. Especially the way the author has corrected various previously published accounts of Lou Gehrig's life and times. The reader is drawn in to Lou's psyche exceptionally deep; his interaction with his teammates, for example, including and especially Babe Ruth. And the author knows baseball too, and understands the situations where a double or home run is just another home run (like where your team is already up ten runs in the eighth inning), and where it's a game changer. The included photos don't display on the Kindle as well as a reader would like, as you already know.I highly recommend this book. I've read several biographies of Gehrig which don't do much more than recite his baseball career.Did you know that there is actually no recording of Lou's final farewell speech? But the author was able to painstakingly piece together what Lou actually said by reviewing what the dozens of reporters wrote afterwards. The stadium, including the press box, was dead silent as Lou spoke. No one thought to record the speech.

This book is many things. I came to it knowing almost nothing about Lou Gehrig other The the iconic facts. Obviously I knew his fate before starting the book, but the author’s ability to describe his life and times put that into the background until toward the end. Then the haunting knowledge of what was to come seeped in. I wanted to believe “50-50” along with Lou.It is a heartbreaking story in many ways but it is poignant, uplifting, fun, heartwarming, historically interesting, and much more. Thank you Jonathan Eig for allowing me to get to know this outstanding person.
