The art in this childrens Bible is beautiful which it why I have given it two stars. I was conflicted as to whether or not I should keep it or send back as there was nothing that was per se "bad", but I felt very uncomfortable with how much artistic liberties were taken. This is written as a story book with things added like details and phrases quoted that are not in the Bible itself. A simple example is that they describe the fruit Eve ate as a rosy red apple and describe her emotions as she was about to eat it. The bible does not say that the fruit was an apple or that she felt excitement and fear as she was about to eat it. That is just one small example of what is on almost every page I read and I only read a handful. I decided that I don't want my daughter to become confused with what is said in the Bible vs. this story like Bible. I have added a couple of photos so those interested can see examples of the text and decide for themselves if they are comfortable with it. Hope it helps.
For less than $9, this book is well made and beautifully illustrated. I bought it as a baptism gift but thought it was so nice that I got one for my kids too. It's more like a storybook than a bible and I have purchased other "first bible" books before as gifts but this one is by far the nicest I have seen!
Beautiful book! Lots of pictures and has stories and prayers all in one book my little ones love it very much
I absolutely love this Bible! From the illustration to the stories and prayers! I can't wait to give this to my child on Christmas!
I LOVE this book. Going to be my go-to gift for baby showers. The graphics and dictation of the stories are amazing.
Very good book to continue introducing the concept of how God and Jesus are connected.
Every child should get one.
Yes it did, but I bought a Behringer amplifier and was very disappointed. I bought it as a new product and to it to Jamaica the day after I got it and to my surprise it wasn't working, I took it to a technician and it had a lot of broken circuits in it and it cost me $70 to repair. Because of that I'm very scared to buy from Amazon again.

What a beautiful book! Lots of wonderful pictures and many great recipes I can't wait to try in my new air fryer. I know that I'll have fun adapting many of them to suit my needs, too, as there is a wealth of basic knowledge here for the novice air fryer owner.
I bought an air fryer a while ago and need a book to know how to use it. I have read more than 10 air fryer cookbooks thru Kindle Unlimited. This book is the best of all. Great recipes, tips, and photos. I highly recommend.
This is a GREAT book if you have an air fryer. It has a lot of information including but not limited to comparison charts for heating and time control. If you want to cook something store bought she has it covered. If you want to cook something frozen, like frozen French fries, she will suggest to you how to do it. With this book you don't have to re-invent the wheel every time you want to cook something. Without hesitation I would recommend this cook book.
I just received a small 3.7 qt Air Fryer as a gift. I would not have purchased one for myself as I did not think it would be something I would use much as I do not fry anything anyway. It actually has been more useful to me than I anticipated. I had downloaded a couple of Kindle air fryer cookbooks, but they were not really useful for the small round type of air fryer that I have. I normally do not buy cookbooks as I rarely follow a recipe completely. I am blessed to be a fairly good cook that does not have to rely on cookbooks unless baking something that requires a recipe with accurate measurements. I checked this book out from my local library prior to purchasing it so I could determine if the book would be useful to me. It is a fairly basic cookbook with recipes that are not difficult. I will modify some recipes to suit my personal preferences (make my own bread dough versus purchased dough), but the recipes are actually designed for my type of air fryer. I can use the book as a basis for developing other recipes also. I felt that the book was useful enough that it was worth purchasing a copy for myself. The majority of the recipes show a picture. There are no nutritional values for most of the recipes. Most of the recipes are healthier versions of normally fried foods except for the dessert section of course. The recipes do not require a lot of strange or unusual ingredients. Most of the ingredients would normally be found in a well stocked pantry.
I use this cookbook practically every time I plug in my air fryer. The fried fish comes out spectacular w/ a coating of crushed salt & vinegar chips, & the coconut shrimp rivals Red Lobster's! Desserts, entrees, sides--I've tried so many of her recipes, & adapted others. This is an indispensable book if you have that latest new kitchen appliance.
Meredith Laurence always delivers what is promised. I've made a number of recipes and have been very pleased. Her introduction and suggestions are very useful. You know when you're reading this book that a culinary teacher has written it. Very precise. I love it! Don't miss trying the Zucchini Fries! Even good reheated the next day in the air fryer.
Finally, an air fryer cookbook with photos! Pictures speak a thousand words. I've purchased several air fryer cookbooks and they had either black and white pictures or poor quality pictures. I bought them out of desperation because I wanted recipes to use with my air fryer. This book is great and I've tried several recipes and all have turned out very tasty. I highly recommend this book.
This is the best. I have tried chicken fingers. The Spicy London broil is absolutely delicious. Cauliflower cooked in here is terrific. It is a fun appliance. Also fun to try different things. Homemade French fries are so good. I haven't made anything from this book that I didn't like. Great addition to any air fryer. Thanks Meredith.
I love this cookbook! The recipes are simple and they turn out delicious. I made the parmesan cauliflower and maple balsamic glazed salmon for dinner last night and it was perfect! I also made the blooming onion and I was amazed at how easy it was, except I have to hone my knife skills. Next up are the fish tacos and salmon burgers. Thank you!

"[Mallea] explores the symbiosis binding together the river locally and regionally as social, scientific (medical), political, and engineered space. The book will have special appeal for those concerned with the ecology of urban and regional water system."—Choice"Kansas City was made possible only by the Missouri River. An unlikely river town, the city relied on its waterway for virtually all of its urban needs. Today’s city residents, however, would never know it. More than a century of intensive engineering has pushed the river out of view. But in this fresh examination of the city and its river, Amahia Mallea offers an expansive view of the urban environment, illustrating just how vital the Missouri River was (and is) to economics, environmental politics, race relations, and, perhaps most importantly, public health."—John Herron, professor of history, University of Missouri-Kansas City"Writing passionately and persuasively on behalf of the Missouri and Kansas (Kaw) Rivers, Amahia Mallea brings much needed attention to racial and social disparities within the environmental history of the Kansas Cities. Equally important, the author uses the rather unique narrative of the Kansas Cities to steer readers towards a much broader conflict between public health and economic wealth that is as relevant today as it was a century ago."—Kenna Lang Archer, author of Unruly Waters: A Social and Environmental History of the Brazos River

Charles Lenox, self-created private investigator, has for his newest client none other than the Duke of Dorset, a personage merely one tier below the Crown itself. His Grace has called for Lenox to retrieve a portrait of his two greats grandfather that has been stolen from his private study. As Lenox begins his investigation into this case, he is beset at home by the visit of a young cousin of twelve named Lancelot, who like many a mischievous boy before him, wreaks his own havoc on the household while gaining the affection of Mrs. Huggins, Lenox’s housekeeper. And, as in the other books in the series, Lenox is aided by the ministrations and perceptions of his valet, Graham. Graham functions both as a sounding board for ideas and as an invaluable sleuth in his ability to search out information in all sorts of places. In addition to these characters, the main players include Sir Richard Mayne, the head of Scotland Yard, who takes Lenox more seriously now three years after his success in solving the case of the Thames Ophelia; Theo Ward, the private secretary to the Duke, who was a schoolmate of Charles’s; the Duke’s son Corfe, his daughter Violet, and his personal servant Craig; and finally, a mysterious man named Bonden, “an expert at finding things†who teaches Charles a valuable lesson in the detective art of observation. We also meet again Lady Emma, Charles’s mother; his brother Edmund; and always in his heart his friend, Lady Jane who spends her days in this adventure trying to fix Charles up with all manner of eligible young ladies. It is a happy occurrence to note that the twenty-six-year-old Charles Lenox of 1853 has retained his youthful optimism and sense of humor. He even “cracks†a joke over his breakfast eggs which Graham, in a P.G. Wodehouse sort of way, responds to by calling it “painfully humorous.†And when Jane informs him that she is hoping the Queen will attend her party, Charles tells her to cut the branches of a tree in her garden lest it fall on that august guest. As the story unfolds, the reader discovers that there is a far more priceless portrait that has not been stolen, and this is the crux of the mystery, for it is supposedly the only known painting from life of the playwright, William Shakespeare. Throughout the novel, as Charles works through the clues, he refers often to a small leather-bound book, given to him by his now late father, of quotations by that author. How does a glimpse of the profile of a young woman of Charles’s acquaintance lead him to the solution of the mystery?Ever and always the author’s historical research is both insightful and oh, so interesting! This reader learned a new word (or two), “aleatoryâ€, meaning “random†and delighted at a neologism, “afternoonified.â€Charles Finch is a master writer whose Victorian mysteries continue to regale his readers
I really do not know how these books just keep getting better, but somehow they do.The Vanishing Man is the second prequel to the Lenox series. I've been reading this series for years, and last year's The Woman in the Water was such a joy to read. This is a series that is so well-written that you truly feel like you're there in Victorian England with the characters. Going back to the beginning to see Charles as a young detective beginning to find his way was just so much fun to read. So I was very happy to hear that The Vanishing Man would be another prequel, and I loved it even more than the previous book.If you have not read any books by this author yet, I really do recommend starting with at least a few of his older books. Seeing the characters develop over time is so rewarding and makes the prequels even more enjoyable.I love all of the historical details in these books, but I think the thing I love best is the relationships that the characters have with each other. A lot of the "side characters" add humor but also warmth and humanity to this series.Really well done, Charles Finch!
This series has been very strong throughout, with no weak books until now. The Woman in the Water has some serious, noticeable continuity errors that surprised me. I would have thought Mr. Finch wouldn't leave any loose ends, but the story was up to his usual high standard. The Vanishing Man isn't. The mystery is okay, but Mr. Finch's writing style feels different, not as carefully constructed as previous books. The dialog sounded dumbed-down to me. I didn't check for continuity errors in this one, because I wasn't interested enough to spend the time. I know many people will feel this is nitpicking, but I was truly disappointed. Hope the next one is better.
The writing of the Charles Lenox books is SO great. I absolutely hate to finish them because I know how long it will be until I can immerse myself in the world of this amazing detective in London - who is smart, charming, good hearted, witty, intelligent, all the right stuff! The vocabulary and language the author uses is invigorating. I learn something new every time. The mysteries are original and layered. Loved this one. One of the very best series out there. Keep them coming!!!!
I really enjoy the Lenox series (treat yourself if you haven't read the books) and welcome these prequels that add richness and context to the characters. Charles is committed to his "profession" but still questions his choice and his abilities. He is learning from every possible source, including visits to Bedlam and possible crooks. And he sometimes gets things wrong. But his instincts are sound, his intelligence sharp and his powers of observation, acute. These, plus a good judge of character, serve him well in this case of theft, kidnapping and murder, with Shakespeare liberally applied. We also get to see more of the values that form him - his love of family (especially his quiet, touching mourning for his father), his fondness (despite himself) for Lancelot, and his abiding love for Lady Jane. The addition of background on his getting to know and admire her husband really helps in understanding their relationship. And his interactions with his client the Duke, show his love of country and politics juxtaposed with his skepticism of class and monarchy. Historical references are well-woven into the story and the story itself is interesting, with just enough twisting to keep the reader enthralled. Ans, there are moments that are laugh out loud funny like Lancelot's conversation with the Duke. This winter has been terrible. Do yourself a favor and buy this book, curl up on the sofa and immerse yourself in the world and characters Charles Finch has created.

Review
Praise for No One Sees God“This book is one of the most lyrical and moving reflections on God I have encountered. It is also remarkably generous, both to believers and nonbelievers. Most helpfully it is about how to pray, and how to suffer through the dark night in which answers, and communication, seem absent. A remarkable book by a remarkable man.” --Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal columnist, author of John Paul the Great"Over the years, Michael Novak has explored with great insight the relationship between religion, society, and the individual. Here he engages with the recent intellectual challenges to religion and provides the perspective of a profound believer who knows what it is like to wrestle with doubt." --Walter Isaacson, CEO of the Aspen Institute, author of Einstein: His Life and Universe“Intensely personal and yet intellectually wide-ranging, this book shows Michael Novak at his best. No One Sees God conveys a depth, erudition, generosity of spirit, and wisdom that simply transcend anything that the new atheists have to offer.”--Dinesh D'Souza, author of What's So Great About Christianity“This new book by Michael Novak is one of the most fascinating reflections on the God known through reason that I have ever encountered, the God whom we trust in shadow and in light, in defeat as well as in victory. Many, many readers will recognize in these pages elements of their own experience.”--Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, author of Rediscovering God in America“Michael Novak's new book counts as both significant and moving. He deploys logic and love, emotion and erudition, to address the most enduring questions of our existence.”--Michael Medved, nationally syndicated talk-radio host, author of Right Turns"The word 'dialogical' might have been invented to describe Michael Novak. With great patience and lucidity he engages believers, unbelievers, and those who don't know what they believe in a conversation about the things that matter most." — Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, Editor in Chief of First Things

Novak writes clearly, persuasively, with a generous spirit, exhorting believers and unbelievers to communicate better with each other, to respect each other, to learn from each other. The book was published in 2008, so gathering from the dust and drama to be viewed on the internet every day, precious few people have taken this wisdom to heart. He makes a very strong case for the humility that both "sides" should have, and generally comes across as fair and sincere. He manages to paint a very grim view of secularism / atheism / agnosticism and the limits and future possibilities of these worldviews. I am not convinced that he always states his opponent's position in its best possible version, but there is no apparent sense of malice or strawman building in evidence. If you believe, as I do, that the debate about faith and atheism / secularism is a very important one, one with far-reaching implications, this book will probably expand and enrich your views on some aspects of the debate, regardless of the "team" you play on. An important read, highly recommended.
I got the audio version and listened to it in my car while commuting back and forth to work. I had to really stay focused to listen. The author reminds me of a beloved, grandfather, who sometimes rambles. At times he is very enduring and thought provoking; at other times slightly boring... All in all, he has some great insight, and a good handle on history, which I find interesting. In places, I think an atheist may be offended, if they are not open to another point of view, but mostly, his dialog is well thought out and deep. He has lived in doubt and darkness, and survived. It is a LONG book, so if you take it on, be prepared to be patient. Once you get through the first few chapters, things pick up and become more interesting. My feeling is if I can walk away from a book and keep thinking about it's content, then it was worth the price. I did walk away thinking, and I did learn some things.
This is a fascinating book. It adopts a charitable, friendly tone in addressing the views and experiences of atheists from within the Judeo-Christian tradition. Novak sees a kind of common ground with atheists in the experience of nothingness (the dark night of the soul) experienced by Catholic mystics and articulated by those in the Carmelite tradition like St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Therese of Lisieux. This is a wise and thoughtful book, open and reflective in tone. It is a kind of summing up of the life experience and reflections of a lifetime--the author more than once mentions his age as of writing--74 years. What it is not: If you are looking for a polemic that takes on the knock-down arguments and jibes of popular atheists like Dawkins and Hitchens in a similar vein of knock-about debate, this is not your book, though it does discuss and dispute them. For that, the reader should go Dinesh D'Souza's What's So Great About Christianity? or one of several books that take these authors to task for their arrogance and ignorance, like Terry Eagleton's Reason, Faith, and Revolution or David Bentley Hart's Atheist Delusions. This book reminds me more of the 1981 film, My Dinner with Andre. Instead of dinner, though, Novak imagines a genial but spirited conversation (or series of conversations) over several brandies. (And I myself spent a few hours with this author, brandy in hand.) The real and imagined atheists who serve as his Alcibiades tend to be blunt, to the point, and commonsensical, like Wallace Shawn in the movie. Novak's replies are long and subtle, like Andre Gregory's in the film, but with less of the pretentious and more of sharp philosophical acuity. As Novak says and shows, it is much easier for a believer to put himself in the shoes of an atheist than the other way round.I recommend the book highly to atheists interested in an understanding of Jewish and Christian belief that goes beyond the usual objections and who are open to the possibility that those objections have been considered and responded to at a very high level of sophistication over centuries or millennia. But the book is also deeply enriching for believers who seek to understand their atheist friends and family members in way that respects them and is both civil and non-defensive. The book requires and rewards effort from both kinds of reader. For the closed-minded, whether atheist or believer, who are content to stay that way, this book is probably not for you.
I could pick many original ideas, but I refer on pages 43-48 as an example. On those pages Michel Novak gives "four arresting reflections" of Christianity. They are:1. A theology of the absurd2. The burden of sin3. The bright golden thread of human history4. The point of the cosmos is friendshipThese should arouse your curiosity for the book. I have never looked upon Christianity along those principles. This is one of the best books I have read lately. Novak points out that it is very easy for a Christian to understand atheism, but opposite seems to be true of many atheists. At least the books of the major proponents of atheism (Dawkins & Hitchens etc.) give this view. The major aim of the book is to improve the mutual understanding of people having different worldviews.
Should be read by believers and non-believers alike.
Novak is a thoughtful author with an immense intellectual depth and capacity. He deals humanely with an important subject that is "ripe" in our time. That subject is atheism and the problem of faith for believers in a period of unbelief and cynicism. He studiously and respectfully establishes common ground of thought and life that both atheists, non-believers and believers share. He shares his conclusions and beliefs while respectfully understanding that other conclusions can be drawn. Life does not spare anybody, we all wrestle with doubt.
