ARNOLD PALMER is regarded as one of the greatest players in professional golf history. He won seven major championships: The Masters four times, the U.S. Open once, and the Open Championship twice. "The King" was the first superstar of the sport's television age and is one of the athletes credited with popularizing and commercializing the sport. Palmer won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and, in 1974, was one of the original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He passed away in 2016 after completing this book.

The sad part about this review is that Mr. Palmer won't be able to read it. This book was on my "wish list" before he died and it was released a couple of weeks early after he did. There is only one book to read about Mr.Palmer and A Life Well Played is that book. The chapters are short and many topics are covered. The reader feels as if he's actually having an Arnold Palmer while Mr.Palmer shares his take on a variety of subjects. There is no gossip here, nothing controversial -- it's just Mr. Palmer talking about this and that. The world lost someone special when Mr. Palmer died. When is the last time you ever heard something bad about Mr. Palmer? Never. What a great compliment and thankfully he was able to pen this book as the unexpected end was so near -- his last gift to us. Rest in peace Mr. Palmer and Thank You!!!!!!!!
As a 15 year-old novice golfer, I was able to follow Arnold in the MEmphis Open. He was my hero and golfing idol. He didn't mind your speaking to him during his competitive play. He signed his autograph with a smile - AND You easily recognize his name. I also spent a lot of time walking with Winnie. I did again in the 1962 Memphis Open. They are indeed two of the finest humans I've ever met.
Fans of Arnie, of golf or of sports in general should love this book. Mixed in with the stories are lessons he learned and values he held to over the course of a remarkable life. The wisdom is old fashioned, the love of people is obvious and the humility is endearing. There's just a genuineness about the man that comes through in the book.I'd especially recommend this book for young people who are sports fans. The chapters are usually 3 to 6 pages in length and cover a stand-alone topic or anecdote. This makes for manageable chapter-a-night bedtime reading.
I didn't golf when I first saw Mr. Palmer at a charity golf event in my home town of Erie, Pa.. I knew he was a great golfer but what impressed me that many years ago how he took the time to sign everyone who asked for an autograph. The next time I saw Mr. Palmer was in Florida where I volunteered at Bay Hill for Winnie Palmer Hospital for several years. Saturday before the tournament the volunteers were provided at free breakfast and Mr. Palmer attended every year and genuinely thank every person some who have volunteered for over 20 years. We need more Arnold Palmer's. Thank God for sharing such a wonderful man.
The perfect golf role modelPalmer's death was felt personally by many including me who have a love affair with golf.I was raised in a city near Latrobe and actually played in a couple amateur tournaments in which Arnie played (and which he won) soI always followed his career feeling elated when he won and sorry when he lost as with the. 62US Open. At 85 I hope I can keep playing until my final shot as like Arnie I never give up.
Good read. A little to much from the early days to the time the book was written, mentioning things more than once. Certanily his father was very influential to his life and it was nice to read the credit he gave to him. His father started him out at a very young age and credit is given in a very positive manner. without his father's early hands on he never would have become who he did become.
This was a gift for my husband, but very often he read aloud to the family. Sharing the inspirations to Arnold Palmer. His story has been a source of inspiration and encouragement for the whole family.
The book is comprised of short chapters each relating a life lesson. For anyone interested in Mr. Palmer’s life it should be an enjoyable read that allows you to get to know one of the worlds greatest athletes a little better. If I had one criticism it is that in the end the writing feels a little superficial and I was left wanting a little more depth. The kindle edition also lacked any photos.

I gave this book 4 stars and not 5 because it was not large enough. It should have been the next size format, so that the drawings would render better. That said, however, I must recommend this for several reasons: 1, there is a paucity of books on roofing, a mundane subject at best and of interest to few people. However, for those people, not much to choose from. "Low slope roof" is industry parlance for a commercial/industrial roof which will have layers of hot tar and roofing felt, then gravel, placed on a generally flat roof. This book explains it all, from a history of this type of roof, to various materials used, what to watch for, how to write specifications, and problems that might occur in the design or construction phases. 2, for those architects that design or specify roofs, it explains roofing in depth, and helps avoid expensive mistakes that experience alone woould teach.Although the book is expensive, the information given is worth every penny. Those who will buy this book will know that.
If you are a practitioner or student of low slope roofing systems, then you need this book! More than just a stiff reference material, it explores the various systems you will confront if you do any Division 7 related work. Written in an easy to understand format (I'm a reformed knuckle-dragger).
Technical but still readable. Even a do-it-yourselfer (if spending plenty of time rereading) can figure it out. Only book of it's kind letting you know the possible pitfalls from all the flat roof systems out there. Lacks some details I would have liked to have since I am not a professional. Very good for someone who wants to tell a contractor what style of flat roof to build, less than perfect if you want a how-to book.

What a pleasure to read a book that is very well thought out and written but is not stuffy. I am enjoying learning about the many facets of surveying and measuring the earth that I never really understood before. The interesting scientific and historical sidebars and great maps make this a must have book for anyone interested in the way America came to look the way it does.

My three-and-a-half year old son LOVES Thomas and gets extremely excited whenever he sees the show on TV or when we read a Thomas story. When I found out this book was going to be released, I knew we would be buying it for him because it's perfect to read to him during the day or at bedtime.Thomas and Friends 5-Minute Stories: The Sleepytime Collection contains a total of 12 stories:1. Busy Engines2. The Lost Puff3. Thomas and Scruff4. Percy's New Friends5. Don't Bother Victor6. On Misty Island7. James to the Rescue8. Edward the Hero9. Belle's New Friend10. Gordon Runs Dry11. Noisy Stafford12. Kevin Meets CrankyThis book is 160 pages long so each story is about 12 to 13 pages long and takes about five minutes to read (as suggested by the title of the book) or ten minutes maximum if you talk about the story or look at the pictures. The book measures 8 inches by 10 3/4 inches and has the typical puffy cover and thick paper pages like the other 5-Minute Stories books. Each page, or set of pages, has at least a few sentences so this book would be good for young readers as well. The stories are all about Thomas and his engine friends and their adventures on the Island of Sodor and Misty Island. A lot of the main engines that appear frequently in the show are in this book and there are some others as well such as Stafford, Scruff, Whiff, and Belle.My son loves reading this book and has requested it every night since he got it! He is often too busy to sit down and listen to a story but anything with Thomas holds his interest and, since I love reading to my twins, this book is a good investment for us. Even my daughter enjoys listening to the Thomas stories. I'm not sure why this book is called "The Sleepytime Collection" because it's just like the other 5-Minute Stories books we have and none of the stories are actually about the trains at night or before bed. That doesn't matter so much to us though since these stories can be read anytime of the day. I think this book is great because the stories focus on learning a lesson such as asking for help when you need it and be proud of who you are instead of trying to be someone you're not which I think are good lessons for young children to learn. If you have a Thomas and Friends fan and want a good book that has lots of fun stories, I highly recommend this one!
My 2-year-old really loves this book, and we read a story together every night. The illustrations are stills (I guess that's what you call them? Screenshots?) from the episodes, and not an artist's renditions. I feel like that helps him to recognize the characters, and they're good-quality pictures. The stories are 5-minute recaps of actual episodes from the show, so they're not just random, weird stories that aren't in keeping with the "feel" of the show. I also really like that the pages are heavy paper, so they stand up to some enthusiastic page turning without ripping. It's not a board book, but it's the next best thing.
I can't read the majority of this book to my child because of all the trains so whiny and just have terrible attitudes. Nothing I would want mine (or any child) modeling. I'd avoid this book if you want well behaved children.
Each page has big picture of Thomas and various engines, so it works perfectly for a toddler. Many engines I didn't know and luckily their names are in the stories...
The stories are the perfect length for my young children. The stories are engaging with many pictures to keep kids’ attention. The size of the book is perfect, too, since it is not as bulky as other collections books can be. I’m looking for more books like this one.
Read for him every other night. We now read the whole thing and are starting over again in Story 1. Great images, great layout, interesting stories. My only criticism is that I wish there was a separate page or section of the book that highlights all the characters as sometimes you have to guess which character is which as you go through the stories, but this is just my minor concern. Overall a great buy.
My daughter loves this book! My husband and I will read 2-3 stories from this book at bedtime and it’s become a staple in our routine. She’s never been a great sleeper and when she’s fighting going to bed we hold up this book and she runs right into her room and cuddles up for a story! The pictures are very detailed and the book is sturdy. A must for any Thomas The Train enthusiasts!
Great book to read to my 4 year-old Thomas fan before bed each night. Love that the stories aren’t too long. Have already read through a couple of times and he’s not sick of it yet!

Sawyer and Jeri both work on Second Chance Ranch. She's in construction, helping bring the ranch back to life. He's a cowboy mainly working with the horses, but all the other critters, too. They are attracted to each other, but until Jeri walks into his house in a case of mistaken house identity they had kinda scooted around each other. Things move quickly after that, a marriage of convenience, mostly him helping her, but also him hoping for the real thing. But apparently the real thing can't be rushed and their relationship turns rocky. Learning to love each other is tough, learning to heal from past hurts and mistakes, even harder. Jeri and Sawyer are a wonderful, loving pair of people, and watching them become a loving couple was terrific.
Burnt by a past relationship, not fighting for what was right, all culminates into not knowing what to do now. It was great to read how she unravelled the past to go forward.
A wonderful story about second chances at Last Chance. Good strong characters. Jericho and Sawyer were marvelous, can't wait to read the next book in this series!
Last Chance Ranch lets us see into the lives & feelings of two more of it's family as Jeri and Sawyer try to help each other out. While spending time together, feelings for each other surface and they find that they have to take care of unfinished business before they can move into a lasting relationship. Are they willing to put that much effort into clearing away the rubble that has accumulated?How many times do we run through life without taking the time to really see what the Lord wants us to learn? We push & push with our eyes closed to what is really important. All of the things we have run past begin to avalanche around us and we wonder what happened. Decisions we made in such haste that we didn't really see what was going on, now they explode at our feet in order to get our attention. Jeri has run from so many uncomfortable decisions that it has become a way of life. But now she has to face them before she is free to move ahead.I LOVE a well written book that actually has substance to it and that will make me think and open my eyes instead of just entertaining me for a few hours. Liz is an author who can do both. She writes a story that pulls me in to the point that it is hard to put down and leaves me with a warm satisfied feeling when it is finished; but it also opens my eyes and makes me think. Now that Scarlett, Gramps’ granddaughter, owns the ranch she is working to restore and enlarge the ranch to serve as an animal rescue facility. She hires Jeri Bell as the general contractor to handle the construction projects, with the use of an on-site cabin as part of the agreement. Sawyer lives in the cabin next door, but it isn’t until Jeri accidentally goes into his cabin instead of her own that their attraction for one another becomes obvious.Both are mature and the sparks between the two are immediate, but Jeri is coming off of a bad marriage and an even worse engagement. Her heart has been broken and her business destroyed so she needs to overcome her reluctance to get involved with another man. Until she realizes she needs him to help her restart his construction career. They have issues to work out but, after Jeri melts down, she needs to address her past before she can move forward with her career and her relationship with Sawyer.I loved the fact that Jeri recognized that she had issues that she needed to face. It's sometimes difficult to accept that just continuing doing what you've been doing isn't going to get you where you want to be. Sometimes we have to leave our comfort zone.I received a copy of this book as an ARC from the author. The opinion below is my own. This is the third book in the series and some of the events run parallel to the other two books.
This is the story of Jeri Bell and Sawyer Smith. Jeri is a carpenter on the Last Chance Ranch and Sawyer takes care of a little bit of everything. Jeri had a construction company but lost it and her contractor's license. She thinks she can get the license she needs to continue working at the Last Chance Ranch if she can get married and change her name. Sawyer asks Jeri to go with him to a family picnic as a favor. They both have some feelings for each other and she asks him to do her a favor to get married so she can use his last name for her contractor's license. The marriage is supposed to last only a couple months and not be a real marriage. Of course, complications arise and misunderstandings. This story takes place somewhat along the same timeline as the previous book but you don't have to read the other two to know what's happening with the other couples but it would enhance the reading of it. I like how Liz Isaacson is able to bring life lessons into her stories.The book is a clean, sweet Christian romance without the preaching. I received an advance copy and am leaving my honest review.
