I have a lot of cookbooks, anymore it takes a pretty special cookbook to get my heart thumping and inspires me to immediately take it in the kitchen and get to cooking. Making Artisan Pasta is just such a book. I have other pasta books, such as the joy of pasta, and usually they are maybe 25% actual pasta recipes, and the rest is sauce or soup or casseroles using the pasta. There is nothing wrong with that, but Making Artisan Pasta is a book about the pasta, about what ingredients to use, how to use them, how to make the pasta, form the pasta, and tons and tons of ideas and tips on making amazing pasta.The pictures are simply inspirational. From step by step photos of how to accomplish making the pasta, to beautiful and inspiring finished products. This book could be intimidating, working with dough and various ingredients and appliances and gadgets, making different shapes. But it's totally not, Aliza Green writes clear simple instructions that would make the most dough-frightened person feel enabled to make luscious pasta. Between her clear instructions and tips, and Steve Legato's amazingly clear instructional photos, this is a book to really give a person confidence and a can-do attitude.There are some pastas that simply call for special gadgets to make them, it's the nature of the pasta, but if you don't want to spend a penny on new fun equipment there are still plenty of pasta recipes you can easily make. The author gives several techniques on how to make pasta. She gives three ways of mixing (hand, stand mixer, food processor) and different ways to roll out the pasta- rolling pin, sheeter (hand cranked pasta machine) and the extruders. Through out the entire book there are variations so if you want to make ravioli you can buy a really cool ravioli pan thing, or she shows you how to simply put the filling on the bottom sheet and put the second sheet over and cut out the dough.The pasta I made was easy to work with and tasted delicious. I started simple, but can't wait to get into the variations like green pasta, or the one with the parsley leaves pressed in between the sheets.The book covers basic pastas, stuffed pasta, dumplings, pot stickers, gnocchi, pastas I haven't even heard of but can't wait to try! This is honestly a book that has me excited to get in the kitchen and start making pasta.
As a classically trained chef, there is nothing that brings me greater joy when in the kitchen than cooking from scratch, especially when baking fresh bread and making fresh pasta. Working with, kneading, and shaping dough is an art form onto itself and this book gives you plenty opportunity to do so, if you are willing to dive in.I bought this book four years ago as a back up to some fresh pasta recipes I had created on my own. As unique as the person who creates it, making fresh pasta is an imprint of the individual, since it allows you to be as adventurous and creative as your culinary imagination will allow. In beautiful and still vibrant photography, this book showcases the basics of pasta making, while in conjunction opening the window to experimentation, to add exotic and alternate ingredients to manipulate pasta shapes, colors, and sizes.I have tweaked a couple of the author's formulas for my own needs and preferences but I especially like her beginning pasta flour mix, as it allows for strong flavor and a pleasant texture when cooked al dente. Amateur home cooks will get good use out of the thorough and friendly instructions and illustrations, while seasoned professional chefs will discover new and exciting combination of ingredients and techniques to create new plate combinations.With that said, I recommend this book - simply be sure to have basic tools and ingredients such as a manual or automatic pasta machine, a ravioli stamp, strong flour or combination of flour, good quality eggs, nimble hands and fingers, a sharp chef's knife, and an open mind. With all seven of these things, your pasta making fun & adventure will be endless.TIP: If you are an amateur home cook or if you are making fresh pasta for the very first time, do not skip the opening chapters which explore the basics of pasta making, techniques of handing pasta dough, and the types of flour and other ingredients. I dove right in the deep end: making pasta using only a bowl, rolling-pin, and knife. (Why? Because I recently had everything I own stolen.) Ms. Green's instructions worked perfectly, and I had a blast doing it. I'll post images shortly.Now that I have an Atlas pasta roller again, I'm all over these recipes like a cheap suit. No more store-bought wonton wrappers for me! The flavoured pastas are brilliant, and the utterly-gorgeous laminated parsley sheets are a show-stopper. I adjust amounts of semolina vs. Caputo "00" flour to give exactly the texture I want. Hand-formed udon in miso soup is ... ambrosial.More about the laminated parsley: It took me four 1/4 lb balls and about 20 minutes total to nail it (see user photos). The main thing is to completely trim the stalks off, or the sheets will tear. It's fun to experiment doing the laminating while still a couple thickness away from what you want: the leaves become enormous and abstract. Next time: edible flowers.Four stars only because her recipes constantly refer to other recipes, which is usually just inconvenient, but can be disastrous. Making spinach pasta? After blending the spinach with the eggs, you're told to follow the rest of the directions for red pepper pasta, but THOSE tell you to reduce the liquid on the stovetop. When the liquid started rising rather than reducing, my brain kicked in and I realized I was making a nice-looking spinach souffle. And yet the book had given me the confidence to just throw in another egg and make (excellent) spinach souffle pasta dough.

Yeah, so maybe it's no big shakes and I could have found it all on the internet, but for $5 somebody saved me the trouble. true enough, the reviews of hotels read like they were just copied and pasted from the hotels' websites. still gives one some idea of what to expect.

I really agonized on how many stars I should give this novel and I decided to go with a five because I realized that just because I didn't like the subject matter, I needed to judge the book on its merits. That being said it is a well written book that kept me reading even when it upset me. I could not put it down, literally. It also wasn't the kind of book that one wants to necessarily to read, it says "dark romance", it's dark but this is not a romance. It is a tale of abuse from the perspective of both the abuser and the abused. I'm going to attempt to describe the main characters according to what I thought they were like.Our "hero" Julian, what a sadistic, controlling, emotionally vacant person. This is your "typical" love story (cough cough) boy sees girl boy thinks she looks like his dead girlfriend, boy kidnaps girl takes her to island in the South Pacific and keeps her there for over a year. During that year he rapes her, beats her (he's a sadist) and threatens her into behaving by threatening the innocent lives of others....that's just the first book...I'm not even going to talk about second two. Like I said, he is a controlling, obsessive, sadistic psychopath....sure he had a horrible childhood but damn. Julian was never going to be normal because of his upbringing, NEVER! He's a criminal. Ok, enough of his bad qualities, his good ones are that he's hot, rich and has a big penis...I mean it, that's it. He is a despicable character, he's obsessed with the girl and doesn't realize that what he feels is love. With even all that the author manages to make his character almost (a big almost) sympathetic. When we see things from his POV, you can see how he thinks and because of that you can see just how (expletive deleted) he is.The heroine Nora, wow! Poor girl, talk about wrong place, wrong time. She is kidnapped, raped multiple times, beaten and is made to endure psychological trauma. From the beginning she trys to think of ways to get away, trys to remain strong but really in situations like that it'd be hard for anyone. She develops Stockholm Syndrome and starts to love and need her capturer, some would think that that is being weak but double damn, how would anyone remain mentally strong. She's an innocent, caring, strong willed person who's in a hopeless situation and who makes the best out of it. (If that can be possible)There are people in this world who are just like Julian, uncaring and unfeeling, people who kill innocent people, people who kill whole families as a message to keep others in line or for revenge. There are people in this world who have no compunction in taking what they want, no matter who it affects. This book does not flinch away from this reality and presents this in a heartbreaking way and even though I will think about the characters often, I don't know if I could read it again anytime soon.In attempting to gather my thoughts on how I should proceed in my review I had conflicting views, I couldn't quite do it and I'm sure at some point(s) I will edit this review. It is a captivating read, you can't but help but think about the characters and try to imagine yourself in that situation and what you would do if you were in Nora's situation. I would recommend this book but beware it is heartbreaking and a hard read. There is a "happily " ever after but the journey, man, what a terrifying ride.
Not so much a romance as a blueprint for brainwashing. 17 yr old girl kidnapped by an arms dealer to a remote island. Raped, beaten, tortured, isolated and inactivity. Receiving occasional positive reinforcement (not beaten that day) she learns to respond to whatever pleases him. Since he was only attracted to her because of her looks it doesn't really matter what kind of personality she matures into. She learns to like pain and he likes to give it. I didn't like she ends up pregnant ( up until then she had 3year BC device inserted under the skin that was removed by the terrorists that kidnapped her from him) these are 2 people who get off on pain and they are going to have a child. He is so obsessed with her that he has trackers inserted into her even though they live in a remote inescapable location, but he needs to know where she is every second. I can't picture him sharing her with a child. More than likely be will convince her to hurt and kill the child.
This trilogy isn't a conventional love story, but a dark romance, so take care if this isn't your thing as the captor/captive theme remains throughout the books. The male lead, Julian, kidnaps Nora as she reminds him of someone special from his childhood. He whisks her away to his private island where she is help captive where he tries to come to terms with his obsessive, psychotic personality. I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Julian as he was a strong male lead, but obviously a bit of a bastard. I liked the twists and turns in the books and Julian's determination to hold on to Nora. Nora is conflicted throughout the books, both being captivated by his good looks, strong personality and overwhelming need for her, while holding her against her will and dominating every decision in her life. I must admit, this frustrated me a lot at times as she knew she shouldn't have feelings for him, but did, even though he was an absolutely hateful prat at times. I had a bit of a problem with him making decisions about her body for her and against her will at times and I felt she got over these instances a bit too quickly for it to be more credible. She gave up a lot throughout the book and this frustrated me at times, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, as I found it was either glossed over or I found it a bit contrary. It was also a bit unbelievable how Nora went from a vanilla lifestyle to needing Julian's particular, rough style of romance. Pretty sure this would be a mental disorder in the real world and her friends and family would be contacting the authorities lol. I liked how the setting changed at times and how Julian tried to grow as a man to be what Nora needed. I'm glad I bought the trilogy because it was great to head straight into the next book as I needed to. I have never read anything by this author before and going by this trilogy, I will happily purchase more books from her.
It was so difficult to even make it through the first book. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this book. The sexy scenes are brutal, absolutely devoid of consent, and everything in between is plotless. There is no character development other than the main character getting brainwashed into loving her kidnapper. I kept waiting for the escape scene and it never came. Was not worth my time, and I feel misled by all of the 5-star ratings.
This book is not for everyone, it is definitely a twisted love story. Julian, abducts, uses and falls for Nora a headstrong but submissive and young girl. Violence, pain, death and passion I believe best describes the chapters in this book. Read at your own risk!
If you like a story about a kidnap victim falling in love with their kidnapper, you will like this book. I did not like it at all. The plot was dumb, the bedroom antics were disturbing, and it was not written well.

I cannot believe that Shirley Dobson says she created this book! I had just bought another book previous within days, called Bible Story Coloring Pages. I was looking for a variety of color pages. That's why I bought Shirley Dobson. These are identical coloring pages. Save your money and buy" Bible Story Coloring Pages" from Gospel Light Resource. The price is higher but you get a lot more. You get the same coloring pages plus the actual story written on the back. Total pages is 246. With Shirley Dobson book you only get 120 pages.
The pictures are great but the picture from the other side of the sheet shows through so they will not copy well. My biggest complaint is that I ordered this coloring book and the "Bible Story Coloring Pages" book at the same time. They are the exact same pictures! The only difference is the price and the 2nd book has the Bible story printed on the back of each coloring page. Unfortunately, I was not able to "look inside" either of these books to find this out BEFORE I ordered them!
This is absolutely perfect, exactly what I was looking for. The illustrations are clear, well-defined, kid-friendly, and each one has the Bible reference so the user can find the story in the Bible. My Sunday school class loves it. Also, it hits all of the major characters and most of the minor ones in the Bible.
this is a great biblical coloring book with great graphics and lots of good stories. my 6 yo was excited to color Moses coming down the mountain with the 10 commandments. and my 3yo is looking forward to coloring David. nice to find a subject matter that is something other than super heroes or dinosaurs. would be a great way to introduce the bible to little ones who are not exposed to Jesus otherwise.
Very cute coloring book. I plan to use it in my Sunday school class, and it will be a fun project for Bible School It's easy enough for younger children co color, ane not too childish for the older kids. It covers stories from the Old Testament thing up through the ressurection og Christ. Most kids like to color, and it a great for teaching them about the Bible. The kids can tape their colored pictures up around the room, and eventually taketake them home
My niece and nephew loved this! They color a page every night 😊 It's a great way to learn the Bible too since they can't read. They are 5 and 3
I have taught non-denominational Sunday School for children at a hospital for about 8 years, and have updated my set of these, periodically. These are wonderful stories (straight-forward versions that don't appear to have bias). They are geared generally for elementary school children, but I have such a wide range of ages (toddlers to teenagers), and everyone loves them. Parents often comment how nice they are, because the story is on one side, and coloring page on the reverse. They do include both Old and New Testament stories, however, for those of different denominations.
The bible as a coloring book this is great! The kids are having fun and learning to.
