I love this book by Tom Kolb. It is 104 pages jam-packed with the most important elements of music theory for guitar, including chord construction, chord progressions, and scale patterns for any key. I would recommend that EVERY guitar player study this book after completing six to twelve months of beginner guitar lessons. Knowing what is in this book can help you become a real musician.This is not an instruction book for the absolute beginner. The beginning student will (I think) require considerably more explanation. However, for any level of guitar player, this would be a great reference to use when taking lessons with a music teacher. If you already play another musical instrument, then go ahead and jump into Tom Kolb's book immediately - - - it will probably be the quickest method to transfer your existing knowledge to guitar.If you are trying to teach yourself, then you will benefit by studying the basics of music theory before you use this book. I recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory, 2nd Edition. After you finish a basic music theory book, then you should have not have any problems following the Tom Kolb Music Theory book.The book is very well organized and the content is presented effectively. While a music staff is consistently used throughout the book, neck diagrams or tab representations are also used to represent notes and chords. According the back jacket of the book, the book by itself is only 40 percent of the cost of the package. There is one great feature of the audio CD: the guitar part is balanced hard-right, so if you adjust the balance entirely to the left the guitar part is eliminated, allowing you to play the guitar part yourself.
I like this book. However, none of the audio files play in my Kindle for PC app, or on my kindle Android app. Both have the following message whenever there is an audio file, " There is audio content at this location that is not currently supported for your kindle device. The caption for this content is displayed below"Anyone have any idea how to correct this so I can play the audio examples?
Anyone having problems getting the audio to play in the kindle app? I tried on my android phone, android tablet and windows pc. All I get is a message that kindle doesn't support the audio. Why publish a book with links to audio files if they can't be played? Disappointed.

I play guitar for almost 40 years and played lead guitar professionally for 15 years. This book is very good and very useful even if you do not know how to read music as everything is shown in guitar-tab format as well. You should know how to read chords like am7 or cmaj7 though.I happen to know more than average about music theory but I found some interesting areas that I did not take in consideration before and it gave me some new ideas and inspirations.I think this book will be very useful for any serious guitar player starting at the a early-advanced level. I would say it should be a "must" for the advanced player who wants to complete his/her knowledge about music theory on the guitar.Something for everyone - and the audio samples are really cool!
Wish I had bought this 2 years ago when I started guitar. But it's an excellent book for explaining music theory too. It's just formatted for guitar players. But the music theory is still music theory. Really great book.

I learned how to memorize the notes on the fretboard with ease and simple tricks to make me a more efficient player. There are no shortcuts to better playing but there are techinques to make you better and simple tricks that can help tremendously.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who was initiative to get better but doesn't want to pay the high cost for formal lessons.This book is ALL SUBSTANCE - NO FILLER, don't let the 100+ pages fool you. I bought this book way back in 2008 when I first picked up a guitar. It was way,way to advanced for me. Here I am after 7 years of lessons. An alternative is "Idiots Guide to Music Theory For Guitar" which is more than enough for the first few years in my opinion. It teaches basic chord construction and has all the important scales,shapes and modes.But of you really want to understand music theory as it applies to the guitar, get this book. I can now fully understand Kolb's book as I aspire to become an advanced player.

One specific example of where to find notes for purchase is already out of date (FCI doesn't seem to exist anymore).The uglyThe writing doesn't seem like it was reviewed much. The chapters are ordered nicely, but within the chapters his writing wanders. There are a bunch of grammatical mistakes that are noticable even to me (an engineer).SummaryThis book will either get you excited to get in the note game or give you good reasons why it might not be the right kind of investing for you. Either way it is going to be worth far more than $10 for anyone considering note investing and less than that for almost everyone else.
Martin does a phenomenal job of effectively and efficiently covering the core competencies that one needs in order to start investing in the note space. I read his book in May and bought my first note in July, without his guidance I would not have been able to get my feet wet. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking to break into the space.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in exploring the note investing world. A quick read that’s easy to understand. I really enjoyed the case studies and they helped me to understand how this business could work. Well done!

Bought this book on a compulsive whim while obsessing about billiards. Holy crap Tarzan! This little book is changing my life - for the better. This fine piece of work has taught me that to manage endless compulsions, which become obsessive at about three times the speed of light - all I need to do is think about something else. It's that simple. For 65 years my personal management tool box has been empty. Now I have an effective tool to carry in it. SSRI's like Prozac can slow down what I call the motor in my head, thereby reducing the power of a particular compulsion/obsession, but SSRI's cannot actually help manage my OCD thought process as an adult. This wonderful book has given me a new lease on life. I can control my compulsions simply by thinking about something else. Another way of saying it is: I now manage "realistic expectations" as opposed to just bouncing around like a deranged ball in a pin ball machine of despair. Thank you so much Dr. Fancher. Your book has been quite unexpected.
I believe this book is a sincere effort to examine mental aspects of pool. It is relatively well written but promises more than it delivers. What's new? Its pluses are accurately debunking of many of the meaningless approaches regularly marketed to players trying to improve their skill and results. Minuses are criticisms of common approaches without offering solid reasons for the criticism. I got a few thing but it is too condescending.
Absolutely fantastic book. If you've been having trouble when you play in leagues or tournaments get this book. I'm fine playing for fun or practice then as soon as it's my turn for a match on league night I start with uncontrollable shaking, dry mouth and shoot horribly. This book helped me immediately change my attitude toward competition and significantly helped my match play.Thank you Bob Francher!
I haven't finished it yet but it has already given me some insight that I have found helpful. I have now read most of the book and I have seen a big difference in my game. I pay attention to my mechanics more instead of just staring at the ball trying to keep focus. I realize I need to work on mastering decisions and motions without overthinking it and without ignoring my innate knowledge.
After you hone your basic shotmaking skills, pool is almost entirely a mental game. There are precious few books on the topic of the mental side of pool and billiards (I know of only three), and this is by far the best of them. The author is a sports psychologist (and pool player), and he explodes a lot of the "mental myths" of pool, including undoing some bad advice written by pool pros and wanna-be pros who meant well but didn't know what they were talking about psychologically speaking. The prose is also a nice read, especially for a nonfiction book. I can especially recommend this volume for intermediate players who are having a hard time dealing with league or tournament competition pressure. Fancher may give you some mental tools to quit being a "Count Choke-ula".PS: If you order this used, be sure you are getting the revised 2002 edition.
This book is a great read. I enjoyed it but actually found a few parts to be a little redundant. Regardless I think it is a good resource for both advanced players and those just beginning the game. There are nuggets throughout that should help any player.

A very good book. Great plot. Unfortunately, the previous book really needs to have been read to fully appreciate this one. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the book and will read the next one. Flynn does a great job humanizing his characters and outing the corrupt politicians ubiquitous pursuit of power. The main story is about a bunch of cowardly Muslims who attack innocent people to make themselves seem righteous in their own eyes. The hero pursues them and they die. There are a lot of side stories in this book as well and a couple of them didn't really get wrapped up very well, but overall very good book.
Been reading the entire Mitch Rapp series. As soon as I approach the last pages of one I am already ordering the next! This series gets better and better. (Unfortunately, author Vince Flynn, has passed away from cancer. He was definitely taken away from us way too soon.) Therefore, I have finished this novel and the final Flynn novel, "The Last Man". Sadly, especially after "The Last Man", I want more of Mitch Rapp. Mr. Flynn's friend will be taking over the series and a new Mitch Rapp novel is scheduled for September(?). I only hope that this new author can keep the series going with the flair that Mr. Flynn had.Awesome series, great storylines, real-to-life theories, excellent characters, believable with a dusting of fiction...
Vince Flynn is one of my favorite authors. Sad he died so young. Mitch Rapp will win your heart if your a man or woman. Irene Kennedy is the director of the Central Intelligence Agency and is like a sister to Mitch instead of his BOSS. Every book can stand on its own. I have read several not in order and found "Kill Shot" and really enjoyed a very young Mitch. A friend going through chemo has thanked me for suggesting Flynn's books while he's in the hospital for hours. Try them...I have read "Transfer of Power" twice.
Very good writing and storyline but that's exactly what we've come to expect and receive from Vince Flynn. He never disappoints. I got a little weary of the Nash character, though. Hopefully, we're done with him as a major player.Though a standalone book, this is also a sequel to the previous book. I don't care for that feature and it's the only two books in the Rapp series done that way so rest easy - that's over now.
Can't think of anything about this book I like. What I dislike the most is the nauseating diatribe for the far right view. Also disliked the shallow plot. Not a good book. In fact, it is Flynn's worst, in my opinion.
Book number 13 of a 18 book action mystery series in the Mitch Rapp universe, chronologically. I read the excellently bound and printed large format MMPB. There will be more in the series as the family has hired a new writer.A terrorist cell has made it into the USA and has a plan. Mitch Rapp and the gang are desperately trying ti catch up to them. The story goes on from there.My rule is that if a book makes me stay up at night to finish it, it is a five star book.
This is a reread for me. I'm reading some books in the series before SURVIVOR comes out next week. I think most women would love to love a man like Mitch who is the top CIA operative. He's a man's man and a real catch for women.This novel dealt with terrorists from al-Qaeda. Three of them manage to kill about 200 Americans. Mitch has to not only deal with terrorists and politicians, but traitors too. Then his best friend's daughter is kidnapped by two of the terrorists and Mike Nash wants to trade his life for his daughter's. Old Hurley is still in Mitche's life and business, even though he is officially retired. Great read. I highly recommend everything Vince Flynn has ever written.
Great story. A lot of characters to keep track of but well worth the time. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. There was a short story continuation from the previous book in the series. Mitch Rapp made quick work of that issue...Now terrorists are training in South America for there big attack on America. Their plans partially succeed but now three of them are on the run in heartland. There is politics, agency infighting and lots more in this book.

A fine little book. Very, very helpful with lots of common phrases translated for the traveller. Print is a tad small as this book was sized for a shirt pocket. BUT it got so thick there is no way it fits in my shirt pockets. I carry it in a jacket pocket and put up with the bulge. Hope it holds up as long a my Larousse de poche (French) has for the last 50 years.
A great dictionary. But pay attention to the width dimensions as this dictionary is quite thick.It is comprehensive and tiny which is awesome and exactly what I want. If you want it to fit in your pocket, unless you have a big pocket, it probably won't.
A Dandy pocket version of its big brother and durable as I got Larousse Pocket Dictionary : Spanish-English / English-Spanishmine all soaked and it dried out fine w/o pages stuck together. Has a handy Conversation guide. Best bang for the buck.
