I was definitely into book one. While I’m not drawn to this genre normally, I needed some light summer reading. Well, I kinda of fell in love with Nick and Rachel and their perspective of the story. I was saddened when Rachel lost a large part of the limelight in book two. But to almost completely disappear in book three was just weird. The author can write. There’s no doubting that. I’m just unsure of his reasoning behind having so many characters throughout the series and then taking the main character out of the equation in book 2/3- very odd. It reminded me of a film where the original lead wouldn’t sign up for the sequel. Book three could’ve been a lot better. Definitely a let down for me.
In the concluding book of the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, the center of attention actually falls on Shang Su Yi, the matriarch of the Young-Leong-Cheng families. She has fallen ill and with her death approaching, her entire family returns to Singapore. At the start of the book, Nicholas Young is still estranged from his grandmother and with him apparently no longer the heir to the Tyersall estate, other parts of the extended family begin to jockey for position so they can inherit the most fabulous estate in Singapore.The story focuses on the trials and tribulations Astrid Leong is going through as she attempts to divorce her husband Michael while keeping alive her new relationship with Charlie Wu. It also focuses on Nicholas as he wonders what he should do now that his Grandmother has fallen ill. And we get a lot of attention paid to the Shangs, some attention on Rachel's brother, a good deal of attention on Kitty Pong and Oliver and almost no attention on Rachel. It seems Rachel's story was mostly done so we don't focus on her too much. That's a pity because she was an amazing artistic creation and I would have loved to see more about her. And that's why this book only merits four stars. All in all, it's a good conclusion that could have been better.For me, the best part of the book were Su Yi's WWII flashbacks. If Kwan doesn't want to continue this story then I hope he would write a story about Su Yi. She has always been amazing and now she sounds even more intriguing.
I bought the entire trilogy at once. I so enjoyed the first book that I immediately went on to the second, only to realize near the end, that I was reading the 3rd book. Even so, I was able to understand everything. However, when finished with the 3rd, I delved into the second, and had many aha moments, so this is why this happened and so forth. I loved this trilogy and recommend reading it in the correct order. All of the top reviews say everything I believe. I will go a step further. If you are not into big spending and consider it obnoxious, then this series is not for you. I thoroughly ENJOY all the brand names and exciting places. I am now passing the trilogy on to my best friend. I'm sure she will love it as much as I did. It may bot be a pulitzer prize winner but it is definitely entertaining. Oh yes, and I DID skim the final book again to clarify some of the finer points.
This is the last of the trilogy and quite frankly, it makes me sad that there will no longer be another installment of Crazy Rich Asians. It is a fun and easy read and widely entertaining. It puts the reader into a fairy tale world of money and power, a world I shall never see (nor do I want to), and highlights the family members' struggles, from trying to lead a normal life to attaining more wealth and power. This last book dwells more into Astrid's struggles to fit in, Nick's internal struggles with his family and we also learn about the matriarch Su Yi's past. It ties up some loose ends and is a great conclusion to the series.
Well, I just finished my 3rd book in this Trilogy..... and I am so sad that it ended...When I started with the first one I became so involved with the characters. Kevin has a way of writing that puts you right inside the book and you can actually feel and see what is happening... My only hope is that he continues on with these characters and doesn't stop with just 3. I used to read alot and during the last 10 years hadn't finished one book, until THESE ! I highly recommend these books........ with the first one give yourself some time to get involved and once you do they will be very hard to put down.........
The third book in this amazing trilogy that has opened the world of the "crazy rich asians" to many of us for the first time, is an excellent, very entertaining and well written summer read. Full of mind boggling fashion, interior design, food and spending excesses, this grand finale takes the reader on a journey full of emotional suspense and plot twists, as many familiar and a few new characters meet again in Singapore and in stunning, luxurious locales across the planet. I loved and enjoyed this book from the first page to the last and read it way too fast. Time to read them all again from the beginning on the beach this summer. Kevin Kwan is masterful at being extremely entertaining, creating a literary world, characters and locations that I can see, hear, smell and feel and weaving a web of relationships that display a deep understanding of the intricacies of life and human perceptions, desires and interactions. Thus I have found myself again and again in the characters of his books and have come away enriched from immersing myself in this strange world.
This book is a culmination of Kwan's trilogy. It's hard to believe there are people who live this way, but Kwan says he had to tone reality down to make it more believable. I admit that this series is addicting and fun to read--not so much ha-ha fun, but interesting. The two main characters are not nearly as engrossing as the people who surround them in the story.
The first two were fun and definitely showed the crazy (no pun) side of the super-rich. This, being the third and final in the trilogy seemed rushed. I felt like some of these backstories would have been better spread out in the first two books because by the third, halfway through, it felt as though the author was quickly trying to tie up all the loose ends. And while the books started with Rachel, this book focused on Nick and his family.

As so many others before me have said, this is an absolute must read if you will be making a trip to Italy. Or, even if you're not, as you will feel like you are right at Margie's side making all of the discoveries right along with her. I purchased this book when I decided to make my first trip to Italy and it is quite dog-eared with page after page of highlighted sections and phrases. It will be making the trip with me.Her book is a wealth of information from food & where to eat and what, useful Italian phrases and words, small towns and what makes them so special, how to get to these towns using buses and trains, popular tourist destinations and hints on visiting them, as well as personal encounters with the people of Italy. It's a guide book, it's a narrative, it's a blog. It is everything all rolled into one fun and informative book.An absolute must read for everyone. I absolutely love this book and would recommend it to anyone planning on traveling solo to Italy. Her style is encouraging and makes you feel like you can do it as well.
I traveled in Italy extensively when I was younger. Finally, here is a book that feels as if I were there again, moment by moment. The author has written a book alive with details and has somehow captured the feel, the atmosphere, the essence of being a traveler in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Great book!
I have to disagree with the reviewer who disparagingly said it "read like a diary". I loved the fact that it read like a diary. I felt like a friend was posting letters along the way. She included the mundane laundry days that all long term travelers know to plan for. I loved that she talked about the people and what they were like...the food ( the pomodoro !! )...as well as the sights.I actually liked that it was plainly and simply written as this felt more friendly to me. I've traveled extensively in Italy also ( my husband grew up there ). I also traveled solo for a year in Central Asia and Africa. This book sounds just like real travelers sound trading information on the road.I'd urge any prospective customers to read a few pages and decide for yourselves !Thanks, Margie ! Being well advanced into my senior years, it is unlikely I will get to travel Italy. However, thanks to Il Volo and Margie, I felt as though I were traveling along with her... living and absorbing the country's culture and language.I became intrigued with Italy after my favorite singers, IlVolo, introduced me to the romantic Italian language.I have even taken up learning some Italian. Clearly, the author knows about sketching. The language, grammar, and tone were just not that great. My guess is that the author is not a native English speaker. There are typos. There are times when the author uses phrases like if we process all information we will be a "vegetable," "why the hell?," telling the viewer, "I know you are absolutely dumb."The author has enthusiasm for his subject matter and probably has a great personality. He probably should have used an editor to clean up the language, grammar, and tone.O
I'm still reading this book. I have been struggling with the subject of perspective for a long time. As a result, I have purchased many books on the subject. I like this one because it's different and I like the author's method of teaching. Try a sample. You might agree with me!
Author has simplified how to compose a picture and few rules which you can and should break to make it more interesting. Just as the authors first book, in this book also he has explained in very detail on how to compose and sketch, very easy read for a beginner and if anyone is delaying to take action on sketching, this book actually will force or encourage to get into the mode of sketching. The author has kept the tone informal and playful. This ensures that even though the topic is slightly technical, the book never gets hard to read and is a fun learning.
The book is very technical and goes into super detail about how perspective affects your art, based on the title I was looking for more help with actual sketches, but his attention to and explanation of the reasons why composition and perspective matter, was great.
The basic knowledge was enough to capture my interest in sketching again. I stopped in middle school and feel inspired. Also became aware of similarities between the visual concepts of "composition" and "perception" and audio music production.
It is not the fantastic book I thought it would be. Poor quality of impression, paper and some mispelling words.
There are fancier, more technical art books out there but I enjoyed this one. Sometimes a down to earth approach can be just as valuable. And even though I am not new to art or drawing I did learn something. I've read about perspective before and as a self taught artist (like the author) some of it just felt overwhelming to be perfect. The artist reminded me that perspective is about possibilities. So freeing and completely relateable. My goal is not perfection but inspiration. Thank you to the artist.

This book is chock full of detailed information on the treatment of Adult Acne. I was impressed with the extent of the research that went into this book. The author left nothing to chance, she covers all possible scenarios that could occur with adult acne, even a bit of anatomy was covered in the structure and layers of the skin.This is a great book in and of itself, but what I liked most was that several alternatives were given, from your typical drugs to natural remedies. Even the foods to include in your diet in the fight against adult acne were discussed. Highly recommend!

This is an incredibly comprehensive overview of how to deal with adult acne which, make no mistake, is often different than the acne one experiences as a teenager. Yes, they can both be driven by hormones and hormonal fluctuations, but there are differences, and that means you need to treat them differently.This book covers pretty much every facet of cause (hormones, stress, etc.) and treatment, including internal (diet, medications that you take) and external (how you treat your skin, topical treatments, etc.).I was especially pleased by the author's treatment of diet, because there are so many ways that diet plays a role in how our skin looks and feels, and that includes how it impacts acne.Even though I consider myself very well-versed and well-educated when it comes to diet, and also dealing with adult acne, I still found not only reminders, but things mentioned in the book that would never even have crossed my mind in my everyday life. For example, having found myself single following a period when I wasn't, I was not changing my pillow cases as often as I otherwise would. When I was looking at my face and wondering why most of my (admittedly minor, but still a big deal to me) acne was all on just one side of my face, it suddenly hit me: that's the side of my face that is in contact with my pillow for 6 or more hours a night! I ran out and bought a few more pillow cases, and have started changing them more frequently, and whaddaya know! My acne on that side is clearing up! Doh!I also want to mention this homeopathic anti-acne product that I have been using (no harsh medications for me, thank you, although she does cover them in the book, and they can be useful for people): Natrabio Acne Relief TabletsI will say that I found a couple of typos/omitted words in the ebook, however I am not deducting any stars for them (even though I ordinarily would) for two reasons: 1. The book is so darned thorough, and readable, and 2. The author kindly sent me the book as a PDF so that I could easily read and review it, and I know that sometimes when translating a text to PDF things can happen. So, I feel that mentioning it here is sufficient. :-)In full disclosure, Kyla sent me this to review, however I am not bashful about giving my true opinion of a product (hey, I'm a lawyer, just try to *stop* me from giving my opinion! :~) )
This book is the real deal. If you have serious acne and you're wondering what to do, this is the place to start. My teenage son has severe cystic acne and I have spent hours upon hours researching every possible treatment plan from prescription medications to home remedies and even old wives tales. If you're on that same path, desperately searching for answers, this book is a great place to start. Kyla has compiled all the relevant research available based on her own personal experience battling acne and the scars it leaves behind - physically and emotionally - and put it all together into a compact, easy-to-read format that will make you a near expert overnight. What she has in this book is based on real science, including her own interviews with the best acne experts she could find. Read the book before you talk with your own doctor and you'll be able to have the kind of serious, informed, life-altering discussions you need to have rather than just trying one thing after another with no success. This book deserves more than two thumbs up - it's a guide book that shows you the way out of the severe cystic acne tunnel.
This is an excellent resource for dealing with adult acne. It is obvious the author has done her research on the hormonal, bacterial, stress and dietary causes of acne that affect adults. She has also provided a range of treatment options from diet changes (including recipes in the back!), OTC treatments, product ingredients to avoid and dermatological options. My only piece of advice (and it's a bit of a picky one) is to have a works cited page. There is an extensive list of resources, but it would be nice to have footnotes when a specific work is cited (especially if a direct quote is being used). I found this book to be very informative. The author covers a wide range of causes of adult acne and then details various treatments for those causes. Stone incorporated both expert data and her own personal story to create a book that's both knowledgeable and relatable. This book was easy to understand and follow along with, and included many helpful tips. I would recommend this book to anyone who suffers from adult acne, whether it's mild or severe; there are helpful hints for everyone from diet to cleansing regimens. I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.

The different reasons given for adult acne were good to know. The book goes into detail with providing possible solutions for each problem and surprisingly there were receipes in the book to help change your diet. So not only are topical solutions given, but also internal solutions as well. I'll definitely be looking into some of the solutions provided to help myself.

Waste of money! Very little info here and nothing in the print version that directs you to the links listed in the book.
Not quite what I was expecting. I consider myself a beginner, but this book is more of a collection of where to find links to websites. I had already discovered most of the items and websites before I read the book. There is very little programming described in the book. You are better off finding resources for free on the Internet. I bought it based on the recommendation from Amazon and the reviews, plus it is labeled as a Best Seller. Granted, the price is only a few bucks, but I could have coupled the few bucks to another book that would have been worth my time to read.
Very misleading title. Should be "Beginner to slightly informed". Nothing is in the book that couldn't be very quickly found online (probably even on the official Pi website). Perhaps I had too high expectations for the book, but it certainly isn't worth the $12 I payed. If it were under $4 perhaps.
Disappointed with this book. It's pretty short and I found it lacking in information. It has a lot of general product information. There's a section dedicated to show you how to buy a RPI. I was expecting more substance and wish I bought something else instead.
All information in this book can very easily be found online. It is only 89 pages long & the lettering is very bold. This is a complete ripoff. All the info is very simple, by no means will you be a "pro" by the end. This is a very basic pamphlet, that is all.
Not enough detail to be considered worthy of a pro. To me, "step by step" implies there would be detail in its pages. It's okay for a beginner but, for the money, it's no bargain. It's only 90 pages and, had I known that (I didn't look) and looked inside at the large font and good amounts of white space, I'd have realized that it was really only fitting for a beginner. Nothing is in-depth, there's no index, etc. So, bottom line, it's okay but, should only be about $5.00.
This book is completely RAD! It contains information on choosing and installing the right operating system on your RPI3, lessons on wiring your RPI to devices such as switches, motors, and LEDs, detailed step-by-step instructions on creating your own media streaming device to turn your old HDMI TV or monitor into a smart TV that can connect to your home media server, turning your RPI3 into a retro gaming emulator, and even building your own arcade cabinet. This book has way more useful hobbyist information than I imagined, and I never thought that the "purchased together with" section on Amazon would prove so useful. A+
86 pages (barely) of random information that purport to show you how to boot the Pi and run a couple of small examples followed by some generic project ideas and a section on "advanced circuits" typified by how to wire in a motor. The few code examples are undocumented and far too specific to be generally useful.My favorite part of the book was the following set of instructions from the arcade cabinet project, "3. Cut and assemble the rest of the arcade cabinet. 4. Remove any electronics, and either paint or stain the wood. Add clear coat for a smooth surface."If zero stars was an option then that's what I'd give Mr. Short's "book." There are much better sources of information elsewhere. Don't waste your money. I'm returning my copy for a refund.

Something that few have mentioned with regards to the "other" money that will be added to the economy (beyond the drug dealers, prostitutes, and underground economies), are those that are NOT employed. Those that trade on the stock market pay capital gains taxes, but they presently pay nothing to Social Security or Medicare. Same goes for real estate buyers/sellers. The FairTax will generate significant revenue (and by many accounts the 23% inclusive tax is higher than what the actual tax would need to be to make the federal tax revenues revenue neutral), and the worthless administrative fees (over $500 Billion/year) that we spend to just be compliant with the current income tax would be wiped away.Another point of detractors are for the "transitionary" period. Those that hold Roth IRAs are going to stand up and complain that those with regular IRAs that are supposed to be taxed when money is taken out are getting an unfair advantage because the Roth contributors have already paid income taxes on their money where as the traditional IRA folks have not. To those, I say this: don't stop this from going through which we all will benefit for to spite those that benefit a tiny bit more. If you want to complain, tell your congressmen to give you back some of that savings account money ONCE THE FAIRTAX HAS BEEN ENACTED. Sadly, I think the demise of the Fairtax is in the perception that contributions made in the UNFAIR system will not be compensated for in the transition to a Fairtax. Once again, even though everybody gains there will be those that bog the process down because somebody is gaining more than they are... a ground that is fertile for politicians to exploit to put the kabash on the Fairtax.Another thing: DO NOT LET THE GOVERNMENT SPENDING ISSUE GET IN THE WAY OF IMPLEMENTING THIS. I was listening to a radio program where a caller called in to tout the Fairtax and the host immediately said "well, I think the larger issue is in government spending." Folks, the reason people don't give a damn about government spending is because they are oblivious to how much of their own money goes to the government. We can attack spending once it becomes clear to everyone how much money they are giving the government. MAKE THE FAIRTAX HAPPEN NOW.To me this is such a no-brainer it's depressing to think that there are so many detractors.
For years I have heard people say that the government will pay for this or that. Wake up. We are the government's pocketbooks. When businesses pay more taxes, that simple charge them to the public...us. The government is gathering this money in so many ways that the public has lost track. We pay taxes on income, spending, saving and dying.Some people think that they are getting 'government money' when they get their tax 'refund' back. They forget that the money was taken from their paycheck each pay period.There are so many things to consider about the current taxing system. At least read the book before making up your mind based on opinions by people that have obviously not read the book or don't understand the concepts. I have yet to read a rebuttal that looks at the big picture. Sure there can, and probably will, be problems in the transition; however, we can not continue along the current path of taxation.
In 1955 Nicholas Kaldor published "An Expenditure Tax". The basic concept found in that book has been expanded and modified to produce a simple approach to how to fairly tax the population of a country to raise the funds necessary to operate the government responsible for caring for its citizens.The basic concept is that all taxes on income, to all entities, individuals and organizations, are eliminated. Government revenue is raised by a federal sales tax on virtually all goods and services produced in the country. The first criticism that is raised against a sales tax is that it is 'regressive', i.e., it takes a lerger share of the income of low-income persons than high-income persons. However, the logic of that criticism is true if, and only if, the persons involved all buy exactly the same items. Obviously, that is not the case in the real world. While some persons are willing to pay the price for a Lexus automobile, others will accept a Ford, thereby paying a lower amount of tax.Further, the authors also address the regressive-progressive issue in another manner. To assure that all parties start on a similar footing, so to speak, the amount of tax one would have to pay for what could be a subsistence level of consumption would be paid to every citizen each month. Therefore, whatever one decided to purchase in addition to that subsistence level of goods and services is his/her decision. In other words, each person decides how much one will pay the government in taxes each year by what one purchases.Obviously, there could be several minor issues that would need to be addressed, but in the light of day, these would be trivial considering the advantages involved in allowing one to determine how much one wished to pay toward the running of the government by what goods and services one decided to purchase, rather than how much one's education, experiences and personal effort have allowed one to earn.I strongly encourage every citizen to acquire and carefully read this book. The implementation of The FAIRTAX could well be the one act that could bring the United States of America back to the position of economic leadership it once held.
