I just love having Thomas Sowell's reasoned opinions at my fingertips, mostly because I think he is an enormous gift to America (and the world). He brings together a huge number of disparate threads, all the way from (1) why we talk so freely about sex, but so guardedly about love, and (2) the meaninglessness of the word "equality" in any politician's mouth, all the way to the general meaninglessness of the word "relevance," especially in education.I like this book because I agree with it. There are dozens of small, easy-to-digest essays and I find myself nodding my head when I read them. Sometimes there is a subtle bite to his thought, which I also agree with. For example (paraphrasing): "No matter how egalitarian our speech may be, it remains true that women in general make very bad men, and men cannot be women at all."A fantastic compendium.
This is a collection of short articles that Dr. Sowell wrote, I believe for publication in various news media. The essays are well worth reading and cover a myriad of important issues including race, social and political issues, and ethics. I doubt, though, that anyone under age 50 or so will be able to identify with some of the ideas, given the current thorough indoctrination of the young against conservative ideas (which, curiously, is viewed as teaching "tolerance").
Everybody needs to read Sowell! He has so much to say that is logical and well researched and well thought out. He doesn't waste a single word and supports all that is said. He'll give you a different spin on a lot of concepts that the media takes for granted, give you the opportunity to step outside of the tide of all the one sided opinions we are assaulted with on a day to day basis. He is respectful of historical figures , offering some essays on people from Marx to George Washington Carver. He doesn't care what color someone's skin is and will criticize other blacks and praise non-blacks , or vice versa if it's fair, but he does so on merit rather than race. He seems very capitalist and encourages a free market, and he should know what he's talking about given his credentials and hard work ethic. His essays and ideas are a breath of fresh air in the smog infested tangled logic air of those with the blow horn nowadays.
Yes, it is a reprint of many other articles and essays, but they are some of the master's favorites. If you do not have other Sowell books which might be redundant, this one will be delightful. He is a brilliant man. Wish he were president!

On Classical Economics10.Intellectuals and Society: Revised and Expanded EditionI've read all the aforementioned books of his (and then some). Some of the ("The Vision of the Anointed") were not his best work, and by putting them into this reader he took the best parts of what was the lesser among his vast catalogue of books. Migrations and Cultures was a book in which he talked about the geographic disadvantages of Africa as an explanation of why it remained poor. It happened that Jared Diamond came along a few years later and wrote a much better book about that same topic (Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies), but Sowell still did have some good things to say about it. But enough to occupy, say, 20 pages and not a whole book.Whom might this book be for? I can see this as being good as a gift for people who have not read Sowell's work before and need an introduction thereto. It could also be for people who have a short attention span and who could use a bit of information on just what is "judicial activism" (but don't want to fish through a 500 page book for a definition of it). Sowell does it about 14 pages with emphasis on the often-overstretched-beyond-recognition Interstate Commerce Law. There's lots and lots of food for thought here.Of the essays, one problem that I did have was that he didn't update "The Pattern of the Anointed" (which was excerpted from "Vision of the Anointed") to reflect Obama's stimulus. Sowell is such a prolific writer and has so many research assistants, that it would have been a single afternoon's work to add on a couple of pages about: 1) What the "crisis" was; 2) What the stimulus was supposed to do; 3) What it actually did; 4) How the goalposts were retrospectively moved.A lot of these chapters are 2 single pages (articles that are taken from syndicated columns of Sowell's) and that you might have caught from reading his work on a semi-weekly basis. For people who are his fans, this book serves the purpose of having a lot of his best arguments in one place and easily reachable. (I sell books after I finish reading, and so I don't have any of the titles that I have read handy.) The articles are good to read over lunch breaks or between classes. And the book can be read out of order.I don't regret this purchase. It was just about worth the new purchase price and is definitely worth the used purchase price as a gift.

Stephen J. Nichols (PhD, Westminster Theological Seminary) serves as the president of Reformation Bible College and chief academic officer of Ligonier Ministries. Illustrations and page layout is very engaging--my 1.5 year old loves to quietly stare at the pages and look at the book on her own. I love to learn *with* my young kids and books like this make it easy! The introductory information in this book would be a great springboard for further study into each reformation topic! I hope Ned Bustard continues to illustrate more books along the same lines (theology, church history, etc).

This is a great supplement to a proper study guide, but it should not be your only method of studying. There is one error I caught so far which is under the subtraction section, 3-8=-5 the study guide has the answer as 3. So this simple error should be fixed
Really nice easy read outline to help study for the TEAS exam. It was a big help with its direct to the point definitions and facts. I used it as a base study guide while using the Secrets of the TEAS V study guide for more in depth information and did really well on my exam. Good luck to everyone taking their exam!
This study guide appears to be great it's set up very nicely, but after I began reading the information alot of it is incorrect. The first two math problems are wrong. Example 1 has 1/9 + 5/9 + 6/9 reduced is 2/3 in order for this to be correct there should be an = before 6/9. Ex 2 has 8/12 + 9/12= 7/12 in mixed number form 1 5/12 ? When 9+8 =17 ...it's missing the 1 from 17. Not worth your money.
Its a handy tool to have when you need to look up something quick instead of going through pages just to find a formula or definition. It is broken down to reading, math, science, and English. What i also like about it is that it gives you examples and it shows you how to work the math! It comes in handy!
I enjoy this Guide because it is concise and extremely helpful. It covers the four main areas which are Reading, Math, Science and English Language. It helps me to study the most important concepts and ideas. It is a great tool to learn or remember what to study for this test. I recommend it!
This was a great reference while studying for the TEAS VI. It certainly doesn't have everything you need to know, but like I said, is great as a quick reference. I actually looked it over immediately before entering the room for my test and I scored 90% overall. Used this in conjunction with Mometrix.
Used this along with the secret to teas book!! Scored in the 97th percentile in the nation. This is a quick summary of what you need to study and is super helpful. My husband will be using it to study for his teas . Highly recommend

I gave this cookbook to my daughter for Christmas and she loves it!
Quality and Quantity of Recipes...this book is filled with dozens of recipes for healthy, tasty eating that I am trying. I looked at other cookbooks with blender recipes...none comes close to this one. I am also giving it as gifts now!
The book is clearly laid out, with hundreds of recipes for my Vitamix. There are recipes for sauces, dressings, soups, spreads, energy balls, nut butters, and smoothies, along with lotions and scrubs, too. My favorite recipes are the gluten-free brownies and I love the smoothie bowls, too! It’s a really well-thought-out cookbook for anyone with a Vitamix.

The guide is much lighter in weight than previous guides in the series. Unfortunately, the photographs contained in the book do not reproduce well on the lighter paper resulting in lack of detail and color shifts. One of the reasons for purchasing books in this series was for the quality photographs which are no more. The information contained in this book lists many small towns but gives the reader little clue as to what attractions or towns are more worthy of seeing. There is little practical information necessary to plan a trip and surprisingly, very little on the culture. It can not be used alone in planning a trip and without the quality photos, it can not serve as a good souvenir of sites visited on the trip. You will need to buy another guide to properly plan the trip, making this book superfluous.
Im really disappointed that they took away the glossy pages. Honestly, one of the main reasons I purchased DK Eyewitness guides over Loney Planet etc was BECAUSE of the glossy pages. Please bring these back. I hate feeling like I’m reading a newspaper when I’m researching trips.
I have been reading most of the Ireland travel books (from the library) in prep for an upcoming trip. I was just reading the 'Eyewitness Guide Back Roads, Ireland' which is a very helpful book but sadly, is not avail. on Kindle. So I just ordered the Kindle version of this book and am VERY disappointed! Very little info. Sort of like the Cliff Notes of the Back Roads book. Gives 2 itinerary options, 2 weeks for all of Ireland and 7 days on Wild Atlantic Coast. It's sorted by region, but only covers a few towns, giving cursory paragraph or two on the highlights. It does not offer recommendations of places to stay or eat. MAY offer one choice for a small selection of towns and it is generally not an inexpensive option. For example, does not offer ANY options for Killarney or Dingle. It does provide links to Google Maps and to websites for the attractions. Will not be useful as a travel book. So far I have purchased the Kindle of 'Fodor's Essential Ireland' and the paper copy of Rick Steves. I'm so glad I didn't pay more than $1.99 for this one!
I went to Ireland some years back and would have had far less fun had I not had this guide with me! It is great for planning day-trips as well as negotiating the land in general. It is color-coded by area and easily gotten through as a result. Recommendations for restaurants and accommodations are solid. In my opinion, an indispensable tool for touring Ireland! I was pleased to buy it for my nephew who is making his first trip over. He'll be well-equipped!
What's happened to this quality book series? We no longer have these stunningly beautiful pictures. Instead you get faded images on poor quality paper. Gentlemen and ladies at DK - What's happened?

Susan Romero is an award-winning teacher with over two decades of middle school experience. After losing my only brother to brain cancer 13 months ago, I found this book and clung to every word. These students are amazing. Ms. Romero has guided these young teens skillfully into sharing their amazing stories. Each experience is different and all will tug at your heart. Most importantly, through the perseverance of these students and guidance of those around them through their darkest hours, you'll find yourself cheering for all of them. Healing can happen for both young and old.
This book is a true testament to the author's love for her students. These kids are heroes and have given other teens hope and inspiration by sharing their stories. I loved reading each of their journeys!
I lost my father when I was 20 years old. Reading this book over 30 years later healed old wounds. I highly recommend this book for parents and children dealing with loss in their lives.

Susan Romero pioneers the field of children and grieving. Her compassion, presence, and ability to connect with adolescents is moving. In fact, it even was helpful in processing some of my own grief. Teens Dealing with Death is a must have for kids, their family, and friends dealing with loss of a loved one. Susan articulately discusses how our society still struggles with norms of avoiding grief, keeping a "stiff upper lip," etc. To move into our next stage of emotional and spiritual growth, it is crucial that we become more comfortable holding space for grief (both our own and others'). Thanks Susan!
What a timely, wonderfully written book! An honest and heartrending account of very real stories from very real students. The book is a quick -- but emotional -- read and relevant for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is helpful to those currently dealing with loss and can provide insight to those who haven't yet suffered the experience. As someone who knows the author personally, this book is a true labor of love and I think it's awesome that Ms. Romero has provided these brave students an opportunity to share their words of truth and inspiration and, in the process, further their own personal healing. Two thumbs up! Everyone should read it!
My friend lost her father a few years ago and I thought it'd really help her since she continues to battle her emotions. After reading this book, it helped give her comfort knowing she isn't the only one fighting this battle. This book is a easy to read and a very good tool for anyone struggling to deal with the burden that accompanies a death; that's an understatement. It's appropriate for all ages, not just teens! Truly an amazing book.
