The guide is much lighter in weight than previous guides in the series. Unfortunately, the photographs contained in the book do not reproduce well on the lighter paper resulting in lack of detail and color shifts. One of the reasons for purchasing books in this series was for the quality photographs which are no more. The information contained in this book lists many small towns but gives the reader little clue as to what attractions or towns are more worthy of seeing. There is little practical information necessary to plan a trip and surprisingly, very little on the culture. It can not be used alone in planning a trip and without the quality photos, it can not serve as a good souvenir of sites visited on the trip. You will need to buy another guide to properly plan the trip, making this book superfluous.
Im really disappointed that they took away the glossy pages. Honestly, one of the main reasons I purchased DK Eyewitness guides over Loney Planet etc was BECAUSE of the glossy pages. Please bring these back. I hate feeling like I’m reading a newspaper when I’m researching trips.
I have been reading most of the Ireland travel books (from the library) in prep for an upcoming trip. I was just reading the 'Eyewitness Guide Back Roads, Ireland' which is a very helpful book but sadly, is not avail. on Kindle. So I just ordered the Kindle version of this book and am VERY disappointed! Very little info. Sort of like the Cliff Notes of the Back Roads book. Gives 2 itinerary options, 2 weeks for all of Ireland and 7 days on Wild Atlantic Coast. It's sorted by region, but only covers a few towns, giving cursory paragraph or two on the highlights. It does not offer recommendations of places to stay or eat. MAY offer one choice for a small selection of towns and it is generally not an inexpensive option. For example, does not offer ANY options for Killarney or Dingle. It does provide links to Google Maps and to websites for the attractions. Will not be useful as a travel book. So far I have purchased the Kindle of 'Fodor's Essential Ireland' and the paper copy of Rick Steves. I'm so glad I didn't pay more than $1.99 for this one!
I went to Ireland some years back and would have had far less fun had I not had this guide with me! It is great for planning day-trips as well as negotiating the land in general. It is color-coded by area and easily gotten through as a result. Recommendations for restaurants and accommodations are solid. In my opinion, an indispensable tool for touring Ireland! I was pleased to buy it for my nephew who is making his first trip over. He'll be well-equipped!
What's happened to this quality book series? We no longer have these stunningly beautiful pictures. Instead you get faded images on poor quality paper. Gentlemen and ladies at DK - What's happened?

After losing my only brother to brain cancer 13 months ago, I found this book and clung to every word. These students are amazing. Ms. Romero has guided these young teens skillfully into sharing their amazing stories. Each experience is different and all will tug at your heart. Most importantly, through the perseverance of these students and guidance of those around them through their darkest hours, you'll find yourself cheering for all of them. Healing can happen for both young and old.
This book is a true testament to the author's love for her students. These kids are heroes and have given other teens hope and inspiration by sharing their stories. I loved reading each of their journeys!
I lost my father when I was 20 years old. Reading this book over 30 years later healed old wounds. I highly recommend this book for parents and children dealing with loss in their lives.

Susan articulately discusses how our society still struggles with norms of avoiding grief, keeping a "stiff upper lip," etc. To move into our next stage of emotional and spiritual growth, it is crucial that we become more comfortable holding space for grief (both our own and others'). What a timely, wonderfully written book! An honest and heartrending account of very real stories from very real students. The book is a quick -- but emotional -- read and relevant for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is helpful to those currently dealing with loss and can provide insight to those who haven't yet suffered the experience. As someone who knows the author personally, this book is a true labor of love and I think it's awesome that Ms. Romero has provided these brave students an opportunity to share their words of truth and inspiration and, in the process, further their own personal healing. Two thumbs up! Everyone should read it!
My friend lost her father a few years ago and I thought it'd really help her since she continues to battle her emotions. After reading this book, it helped give her comfort knowing she isn't the only one fighting this battle. This book is a easy to read and a very good tool for anyone struggling to deal with the burden that accompanies a death; that's an understatement. It's appropriate for all ages, not just teens! Truly an amazing book.

I just finished this series and was very happy with it. The story was good, with enough detail vs. action. The battle scenes were well described without boring me to tears by the time they were done. The characters were likable and flawed at the same time. The dialogue was good. And important to me, the writer managed to tell a great tale without feeling the need to succumb to frequent vulgarity...especially with word usages that were probably not even known it that time period. And there was great romance without it needing to sink into overdone sexual imagery; two things that made me put down Steven McKay after only a couple of chapters. I liked this series and am looking forward to more from Wayne Grant in the future.
Being in between books I decided to take a chance on what I thought was going to be an amateur attempt at writing, judging by the cover and the synopsis. But that's why I joined Kindle...to save money! so I invested my $2.99 hoping to be at least mildly entertained before I dropped off to sleep. Little did I know, that I was being craftily pulled into an intriguing plot with believable characters galore! I don't know who Wayne Grant is but he is so good I sometimes suspect a pseudonym in play. He is the real deal take it from a guy who read everything from Azimov to Zane Grey ( yeah I know). I am not only surprised at the quality of this series but am vastly entertained. Yes I would recommend it to a friend.,
The second book in the Roland Inness saga is as good or better than the first. Our hero, young Master Inness is off to fight in the Crusades in this volume, which has two basic plotlines: Roland at war as squire to Sir Roger de Laval; while the de Laval family back in England are caught up in the equally dangerous intrigue of royal politics. As in LONGBOW, the characters in WARBOW are memorable and sharply drawn. The writing is crisp and engaging and the battle scenes are outstanding (what can you expect from a West Point graduate?). Read this book! It's for kids of all ages. But first, you might want to read LONGBOW, the firs in the series. Can't wait for the next book.
I decided to take a chance on the first book, have now finished reading this book. I love this author. I love this series.I was vey surprised I thought it would be a book written for young readers. I think this was because of the art on the cover. But this story is for anyone who likes a good read. Will definetly read all the author writes.
Roland Inness is back and he's getting more skilled all the time! This book is a worthy follow up to Longbow and gives a nice little account of the Third Crusade under King Richard, while also documenting the intrigues and treasonous happenings in England under Prince John. As a lover of historical fiction and a good story, I loved this book!Language and a few places of slight innuendo. Still, Roland Inness and his companions are all honorable characters who behave themselves and stay true to their morals.Can't wait to start Broken Realm!
As much as I loved Longbow, I found Warbow to be even more of a page turner. Warbow necessarily starts a little slowly for those who have read Longbow, but picks up speed quickly. I do, however, understand the need to catch new readers up on what got Roland to this point. Once rolling, I couldn't put the book down. Having daughters and granddaughters, I particularly liked how the author included strong decisive women in the tale. This book, as was Longbow, is characterized as a young adult novel, but trust me when I say that it is riveting for mature adventure lovers.
This is the 3rd installment and the only possible complaint I have is that I have to wait on the 4th. That is a good thing though because it means that I enjoyed the book, I like that the main character in the book is not the only one capable of heroic actions. There are other strong characterizations, both male and female that I believe could have led their own story. If you like historical fiction where the history does not impede the story telling then you will probably like this series.
I keep telling myself I will read just a couple more pages before I have to shower and leave for work. But it's hard to put down the book when each chapter draws you in with its delicious characters and compelling plot lines. I've already downloaded book three. Sorry, I can't write anything else because book three is calling me.

Purchased this book based on the genre, but haven't regretted it a bit. Lilah is a great story with a great twist, especially for those who remember fondly the stories from the bible, but love the embellishment this author provides. The story is rich, the character development is suberb, and the landscape is so vividly described that you can almost feel the ground beneath your feet. This book is part of a trilogy, and I couldn't wait to finish each novel. I will recommend this novel to any one looking for a great story. Also, please look up "The Red Tent" for further reading along the lines of "Lilah."As far as the seller is concerned, I am glad to note that the book arrived in good condition, exactly as described, and on time, too! I would recommend them to other Amazon.com shoppers.
The heroine lived in a very dark time in Jewish history and the book paints Ezra as a very weak character. I thought it was interesting how the author portrayed the years in Jerusalem by having Lilah write a VERY long letter to her husband. The fact that writing then was with a stylus and very difficult makes it seem a bit far-fethched, but it enabled the author the cover history only from her knowledge and feelings.
It's ok !! I like it and read it a couple times every year but beloved Leah and Rebecca's redemption is so much better!!!
I liked Lilah's story. I'm not totally familiar with Ezra's story and his roll in rebuilding Jerusalem but this story is based on Ezra's journey back to Jerusalem to rebuild it. Lilah is his sister and I don't know if the Bible mentions her or even if she has a sister but it is a nice story. I like these kind of books. Historical Biblical Fiction. Give it a try.
I loved Lilah, just as I did the rest of the Canaan Trilogy. Sarah was my favorite, but be fair reviewers. Lilah was a great book. I have never written a review before, but I felt I needed to after reading what had been written about this one. I recommended this trilogy to a neighbor last week before reading all the negative things written here, and I stand by my recommendations. Another fantastic book in the "Biblical Fiction" category is "The Red Tent" (not written by the same author). It is my absolute favorite.
My cousin's reading group at her synagogue read this book, she recommended it, and I read it on my Kindle. The writing was ok, but I enjoyed the story and found some of its twists and turns most unexpected. Talk about the differences your choices can make. I am thinking about reading the other books in the trilogy because of my pleasant surprise from LILAH.

Another can't-put-it-down book. A page-turner. A very decerning eye for detail. Written from much mediation of Scripture.The only negative point is some missing detail from the French to English translation. Not as fluenty translated as the first 2 books of the trilogy. But saying that it is well-translated and VERY WELL WRITTEN.EXCELLENT STORY LINE!

Plus, the long commute would not offer me much time to exercise in the morning or evening during a work day. But since I work from home three days a week, after work, I can trade in what would be a long ride home in for a run (at least in the summer, winters in NE Ohio are awful!). That way I have more room to eat on the days I'm in Cleveland!3. Time Flexibility - Remote work gives you the ability to get your average forty hours a week in any time during the workweek. My wife and I just had a baby, so that time flexibility really pays off when you are juggling work with visits to the midwife or pediatrician.4. It's extra motivating to know that your project success rate is how your company will perceive your value to them. It forces you to manage your time appropriately to get the job done!5. If the talent didn't want to move, the company was out of luck. Now, with remote work options, great people can be hired from all over the world! I'm a big fan of the SvN blog and Rework and Getting Real, so it's safe to say I was excited about Remote when I heard about it earlier this year. Coming from a global professional services firm, we've adopted a lot of workplace flexibility measures to fight back on the expenses associated with office space and our high-turnover/stress environment. I share the authors belief that going remote is the way of the future and this book highlights the reasons for going remote, the arguments against, and methods for optimizing the value of a remote culture.Since I work in IT, I understand the obvious connection between the authors and the software business. I think they did a fine job showing why remote working isn't just for IT and why there are benefits across industries. One of the few shortcomings of Rework was that I thought it was a little too IT-centric; some of the arguments presented there just wouldn't fit well in non-IT, traditional (read: old-fashioned) businesses. Remote does a good job explaining why some of these more traditional old-fashioned businesses can benefit from going remote. I especially liked the sections about hiring and retaining the best employees. Everyone can relate to this and it has helpful that they went into detail to explain exactly how they do it at 37 Signals (since at this point they are pretty good at it).It's a short, enjoyable read. It leaves the reader with a sense of what work could be like if you're courageous enough to think outside the norm and challenge conventions as to what work is supposed to be (and what it can be). I'd argue that almost any business owner or decision maker could benefit from this book, even if for just one little bit of information that makes you follow-up with one of their sourced documents. I know that finishing this book is just the beginning for me to rethink how remote work arrangements can be optimized.

I read the book and did the work at the end of each chapter in the 4 1/2 hour flight home. I couldn't put it down. This is a short book and very well written. The author wasters no time in getting right down to what is most helpful in managing our lives, our thoughts, and our emotions. Lots of great stories from a very well lived life! Wish I'd had this when I was 20.
I really enjoyed this book... the stories, the antidotes, the humor and the exercises. This was a great book to pick up and read with a cup of tea before bed. It helped me to feel clear, calm and relaxed.
This book was a pleasant surprise. While I fully expected it to have some good ideas it never occurred to me that they were all gems. The book was full of great links to other relevant authors and even some videos. It was so easy to follow the links to discover another great author. All in all I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to break free of non-productive thoughts or improve their self-image.
